Retired W56 Gearbox. Advice needed!

Post by Juvster »

Hi guys,

On my way back from the Secunda this weekend my W56 gearbox (1999 2.7 Hilux; 3RZ-FE motor) decided that he just couldn't go on anymore. Long story short: The flange of the oil replacement bolt on the gearbox has broken off, or a piece of it at least.(I hope this is the correct wording. This is steel and I had no idea that this was even possible). The bolt is fine, but alas the bolt can now no longer be screwed into the gearbox....there is now no of stopping the oil from running out of the gearbox. There is a loud singing noice, 3'rd Gear is gone and 4'th has now also starting showing signs of disobedience.

There is no way of fixing 'n broken steel flange is there? So I am now left with having to look at just buying a new gearbox all together? Seeing as my Hilux has got 400K on the clock this might not be a bad thing.

Now then my question: Do I go for the W56 gearbox again or is there a cheaper maybe better alternative gearbox?

Your advice will be much appreciated guys thanks! :beg:
