hilux 1999 5L to kzte

Post by Bradmclaren »

hi everyone, been a while since I was last on this forum.

i have a 1999 hilux 3.0D and i purchased a 3.0KZTE motor,

long story short, 5L motor is out, we now hitting all the problems, kzte motor flywheel is much wider and bigger than the 5L so will need a bellhousing or adapter, where do i get one?
other problem is that the sump on the kzte hits against the steering dampener, will it be a prob to take the steering dampener out?
next problem is that when we dropped the motor in to see if engine mounting line up, we noticed that the viscus fan is almost up against the aricon radiator, the engine radiator is out, so will be mo space for the radiator.

has anyone done this conversion?

please help.

Hi and welcome back.

Can't comment on much but regarding the steering damper. I took mine out and have had no problems without it. What you could look at is maby lowering it with a spacet of some sorts if you feel the neet to have it in. Worst is that you will now feel all the rocks in the road as you drive over them, even little pebbles.

Done it a few times,
You will need the right bellhousing, contact "Gillo engineering" in JHB
Your sump is off an import motor, you need a local sump and pickup
You'll have to fabricate new engine mounting towers
The Radiator needs to be changed with a KZ one wich is bigger
If you don't have the ECU and harness, get a 2.8 Colt injector pump.
The diff ratios has to be changed from 4.55 t0 3.77

Allan, did the Hilux with 5L motor have a 4.55 diff? (sounds a bit low for a diesel).
