2.7 D/C body lift

Post by Willem van Schalkwyk »

Hi All,

I want to do a body lift on my 2.7 but I got some mixed information.
I don’t want to lift it to high, about 30 - 40mm.
Can someone give me advice on what to do?
Some guys say it is a very difficult job and others say it is easy.
Also how many spacers would I need and what length bolts.
Much appreciated.

a standard lift is 50mm, you need 14 spacers, they are R600.00 for the set

once you removed the bolts, take them to a bolt & nut place and get a set that is 50mm longer

Lifting the body is not that difficult, it is all the small things that goes with it. like te radiator, bumper brackets, towbar , gear levers, fuel filler pipes etc.

Remember to get a longer fuel hose, I used normal radiator hose, the breather still had slack. Once you do a body lift, the spare wheel under the bin, the holes where you take it up/down, will misalign.

Thanks guys!

I want to fit 32" tyres.
I already have OME suspension but don’t want to go for the extended shackle option.
As I understand this will make the car more unstable when towing??

Hello Willem
On my single cab there are two diagonal supports under the load bin. I'm not sure if the double cab also has them.
You also need to add a spacer under these. Otherwise the bin may get damaged with a heavy load.

Thanks for the help.

I have manage to get away without a body lift but might still lift a bit later.

The wheels scratches on full suspension travel but that will go away with time

Will post a pic with before and after.

Looks good!
I put 31" tyres on my 2.7 before I could afford the lift, the noise of the tyres catching on turns soon made me dish out the extra cash on a suspension lift. Always worried that the tyre may eventually tear something off or may get cut... I would definitely look into the body lift if I were you.
Since you mentioned towing: Never, ever drive in 5th when towing and when not towing, do not change to 5th, until you are traveling at at least 120km/h. Massive strain on the gearbox, especially 5th gear.
