How far after fuel light on 3.0KZTE

Post by grobbepj »

Hi All,

I am one of the people that hates refueling (which is one of the reasons for a long range tank) so I always fill to the brim and then drive until I start to get nervous on the empty side... (good or bad is for another discussion).

But then I must admit on my 3.0kzte double cab i get nervous BEFORE the fuel warning light comes on. It seems that it come on very late and when the needle is basically only lifting. I have only seen the light once or twice so assumes its still working. No my question is how far generally can I still travel when that light comes on??

I have discussed this around hte watercooler at work and it seems to very from "you better get to the nearest fuel station" to "ag dont worry still the best part of 80-90km (I seriuosly doubt this one)...

Any insights from fellow kzte owners or sommer in general... how far will you travel with the light on? (if not kzte please state the model for interest sake)

Nee wat, daai liggie gee jou baie grasie. Ek ry hom gereeld totdat ek die blou tussen die naald en die empty strepie sien - dis nou met die naald onder die strepie!

Ive also wondered the same on my 2005 KZ. When the light comes on i normally foll up and the most i ever put was about 66 liters but the book says a tank capacity of 75. Im asuming i can still drive out about 9 liters before i run cpmpletely dry. Can anyone comments on that?
And if u run completely dry and then fill up, is there any special procedure to follow when trying to start or crank the engine again.

I Regularly test my fuel light...
Most I've driven was about 70kms with light on. But then agaiin my s/c has a larger tank - 90+liters.
If you run dry, simply push the button on the fuel filter up and down repeatedly to pump fuel back into the system. Bleeding is for Isuzus.
I feel a lot less wise at 45 than I did at 15.

I think Toyota forgot about it because even my sister's 1984 1300 Corolla L (most basic model) had a fuel warning light.

Our Hiluxes are the only Toyotas I know of which did not have a fuel warning light.

Mine 2.7, if the needle touches the underside of the empty stripe, then it takes about 70l to fill which means there is still 10l in the tank which can take me 65 to 70km and 80 if I do 90km/h.

I normally start to panic when it touches the empty stripe.

If I travel long distance I always rather fill up when there is a town and it is near 1/4. I have learned over the years that the time you spend putting in fuel is not as bad as the time you spend driving 60km/h, hoping to reach the next town. :frustrated:
