2002 2,7 Raider S/C 4x4 Airsprings
I have fitted Airsprings to compensate for the load of the Canopy Caravan on my Single cab.
Part number - LS5062. I had to cut the upper bumpstop away because the distance from Springs to chassis is only 220mm.
There is an Air Alert 1/2011 regarding this from Air Spring Supply Company. There was apparently a change in suspension geometry sometime, hence the different part to a previous thread. Cost of kit = R 4 674
I have covered the airpipe with 3 x layers of sprague to protect it and routed the pipe through the chassis.
The U-Bolts had been crossed threaded by previous owner, so I had to get a new set = R 1 400
Torque setting on Spring pack U-Bolts = 120Nm.
I will only start to play around with pressure when I load the Canopy Caravan later this month as I am still busy doing some mods to both it and the Hilux.

Hi Edge - here are some photo's of the Canopy Caravan. I bought it from friends who have had it for 10 years and it has been all over the place. e.g. Namibia -van Zyls pass, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Lesotho plus all over RSA. I bought the Hilux & Canopy Caravan as a set because they are custom made for each vehicle. I have no idea what the new price is at present. The factory is in Meyerton - http://www.canopycaravan.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I will be taking it there during January to have an Ostrich Awning, Gas struts and 2 x water tanks fitted in the round tubes on either side where originally tent poles and fishing rods were stored. There are plenty of cupboards and also packing space thru hatches under the beds into the free areas of the bak, so little waste space.

Hi Brian. You got supplied the wrong kit. It should not have been necessary to cut off the bump stops. The change in the suspension geometry happened in 1999. All models after 99 have the same design you do and I have. I initially received the same kit as you did. With instructions to cut off the bump stops. Upon looking at the pictures supplied with the instructions it was clear that the airsprings I received were for the 99 models. I took pictures and re-did my measurements. Got the correct kit sent with a apology since I ordered the correct kit but received the wrong one.
Those airsprings you have look like they are over extending. At full droop they will limit downward travel as is.
Here is my thread viewtopic.php?f=93&t=37261" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: 2002 2,7 Raider S/C 4x4 Airsprings
Hi Johan - yes, after initially reading your thread, I asked for the same kit which you have got. My air springs just fit between the chassis and spring pack. In fact I had to compress them a bit to get them into place. The distance between the chassis and spring pack is 215mm and not 300+ as with other vehicles. Without removing the upper bump stop the bags would have been almost flattened.
The info from Firestone was that the bags would be constantly compressed which would result in failure. They also indicated that there would be no guarantee if I took the same part number as yours.
I went to TWT this week and got the torsion bars adjusted and alignment done. Today I fitted the camper and drop was 30mm. Airsprings pumped to 300kpa and the vehicle is level again.

Hi Andre - this is a Canopy Caravan. You can find info on their website.
There are quite a few different manufacturers around who sell similar units.
The arthritis has caught up with me and pitching tents is no longer enjoyable, so I was fortunate to get this combo from friends here in Ladybrand.

Hi Andre - Ja well no fine - a blond moment. They are Firestone Airsprings - http://www.assc.co.za/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
By the way, I have just taken the Caravan Canopy to the factory for some mods and the Airsprings make a huge difference to the ride and handling.
