Which aftermarket item?

Post by Groen »

Hi guys, I'm reading everything I can find on Hilux 4x4, so when the time ($$$) comes I will know exactly what to buy  . Based on my research both on this forum and elsewhere I have decided a 1999-2002 2700i 4x4 d/c will fit my bill. Which aftermarket items are worthwhile additions to look out for when I buy (eg larger tyres, arb bumper, difflocks, winch) or should I rather go for a standard Hilux and add aftermarket items as I need/want them :? ?

Hi Riaan,

Wise choice! There is a '99 2.7i Raider advertised here at a steal - I would not sell mine for double that amount even.

The Raider (as advertised) features the import diff with computerised rear diff lock. The cheaper SRX 4x4 model has the local Gearmax diff fitted and has no diff-lock fitted, so that should be a no-no. A worthwhile investment is 31" tyres, the power the engine develops is more than sufficient to propel the vehicle with the larger tyres.

Other than that, you could lift the suspension if you want to, but the vehicle is already pretty high in standard form.
