Headlamp globe replacement

Post by Eyeman »

I've heard that the headlamp globe can be replaced with one using less power but emitting more light - ?Osram halogen.
Can anybody "enlighten" me?

Fit Osram "Night Breakers" (H4) .... it's a simple 5min lamp replacement @ R128 for both from Autozone, or R137 from Midas. Installing a HID kit is a lot of work and moola (you have to change the complete headlamp assmbly) .... simply .... not worth the effort for the marginally better performance, and you might get irritated with oncoming traffic flashing you all the time. You can also get the Night Breaker (H3) replacement element for your spots, if you need the extra light on the open road.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

I replaced both of PraDog's H4 bulbs last night with Osram Silver Star globes, simply because I had them spare. The difference is incredible! I have gone from a 'yellow' light to a bright white with just a simple bulb change. The bulbs that were in PraDog were marked as being made in Germany, but they were nowhere near the quality of the Osrams. Osram Night breakers are the current in-thing however, so it's well worth your while to fit them.

The Silver Star's are a cut above the 'Cool Blue' and a cut below the 'Night Breakers'. I fitted cool blue some years back and they already made a big difference. I still get 'flashed' occasionally by on-commers ... (not that kind of 'flashing' Eric! :o: ). :D:

Thanks to all those who replied - much appreciated.
Sounds like Night Breaker is what I need. Am I correct if I ask for an "H4 Night Breaker"?
Thanks again. 8 )

Not sure about the Night Breakers, but the others are available as single unit replacements.

Osram NIGHT BREAKERS are awesome globes at an affordable price. A lot of people also get confused with "halogen" globes and the genuine (expensive, but worthwhile) HID xenon upgrade kits wich we retail for R.2046 for a H4 kit. But the IFS Hilux uses a H3 kit as far as I know which retails for R.1590.

IFS Hilux also uses H4 globes. Well, White Fang & Hound Dog do, anyway!

I've fitted Philips Extreme Light. Much better especially on high beam.
