Re: 3.0 D4D S/C Where to build in compressor
Thanks, Mark. Cris from R&D Offroad told me there's not enough space in my engine bay. Have only added an extra battery in the bay.
Re: 3.0 D4D S/C Where to build in compressor
Just check behind the air filter, there should be ample space To protect it from water / mud I cover it with a simple shower-cap from P/P.

I've seen a couple between the grill and the radiator, without cooling problems. Currently busy to fit my UDF in there..

Oooms daai lyk na 'n plan. Sal bietjie kyk of ek dit ook so kan regkry want ek sit met dieselfde probleem as Witblits. Watse soort kompressor het jy daar ingesit en waar het jy hom gekoop?

Dis 'n 'dubbel' kop kompressor, pomp soos 'n h.... (hond!)

Re: 3.0 D4D S/C Where to build in compressor

Re: 3.0 D4D S/C Where to build in compressor
Dink jy om dit agter die sitplek permanent te mount?

If it is mounted permanently you have to have power (run cables obviously...) and make sure the pump does not touch anything when you put the seat back as is get's very, very hot after usage!!!
If it is loose behind the seat and you want us it you have to open the bonnet in any case and connect clamps to battery terminals.

Re: 3.0 D4D S/C Where to build in compressor
Maybe I'm missing something here, but what is the benefit of a fixed mounting as opposed to having it in a neat carry case tucked behind the seat. To my mind, if it's loose, it can be taken across to another vehicle requiring assistance with ease .... if it's portable it's so much more versatile, and many of them just plug into the lighter socket. If it's fixed, you still have to go and connect your hose, no? ... Like I say, maybe I'm missing something?

Re: 3.0 D4D S/C Where to build in compressor
Thanks everyone. Many points to ponder. Yes, the idea is a permanent mount (for the sake of convenience), but take the point about the potential heat problem - space is limited behind the seats in the single cab. Maybe the solution (from Andy's remarks) will be to have it portable in the load bin and plug it into one of the Anderson plugs (if possible) when needed - almost if not as convenient as a permanent mount behind the seat methinks? Do not want to permanently mount it in the load bin as it used for cargo from time to time.
Re: 3.0 D4D S/C Where to build in compressor
Thought as much, we SFA DC owners are spoilt with a large storage area behind the backseat, perfect for locating a compressor, invertor, sound amp etc...Witblits wrote:take the point about the potential heat problem - space is limited behind the seats in the single cab.
I hate having to leave mine behind in the case as my vehicle is more often than not parked on streets and has subsequently been broken into upteen times, I suppose I must try and bolt it inside the engine compartment as suggested.Witblits wrote:Maybe the solution (from Andy's remarks) will be to have it portable in the load bin and plug it into one of the Anderson plugs (if possible) when needed - almost if not as convenient as a permanent mount behind the seat methinks? Another option is behind the grill on the right hand side.... There is ample space!

Re: 3.0 D4D S/C Where to build in compressor
Mark, my Swaer, I have one in a portable case .... that's the reason why I suggest it. It's so convenient .... I can transfer it to another vehicle in a heartbeat, and it sleeps behind the rear seat with ease and no rattles. If another vehicle (sometimes even my own) has a flat, one does'nt want to move that vehicle for the sake of damaging tyres. If it's in a tight spot like a driveway, how are you going to get the other vehicle that it's permanently mounted in alongside or close enough to get to the furthest wheel.? ... Like I said .... just does'nt make sense to me unless it's to prevent theft as Rich mentioned.OOOOMS wrote:Perhaps a compressor.....?maybe I'm missing something?

Re: 3.0 D4D S/C Where to build in compressor
Agree ooooom, mine can stretch to the other vehicle(that curkly cord), but the reason I eventually mounted it was because the kids always carry it around pump up their bike tyres and on one occasion when I opened the side door of my canopy......it wasn't there.....
So I have bought them their own one, they can cart around, and mine stays in the van, fixed!!!

I agree with Mark, I also have 2: both portable though: a Mickey Mouse one for the kids' bicycles, and a mean one in a bag that stays in Forest permanently with the toolbag, fire extinguisher and other goodies.
And the kids were warned: dad opens back and compressor not there: no cellphone/tv/games whatever for a year!!!
