I replaced mine with Osram Cool Blue's Just before the Silver Star's were introduced ... that's years ago and many bumpy roads / tracks / no roads passed under the tyres in that time .... no problem ever. IIRC the Cool Blue were not that far behind the Silver Star IRO lumen output and a very noticeable difference between the standard bulbs.

IMO it's all very well to have these fancy globes, but where you really need them is on the open road and a good pair of spots makes up for any shortcomings. Another thing is that it can become quite irritating for yourself and other road users when you are on dip and oncoming traffic keeps flashing you because they think you're on brights. Then there's the reliability issue ... what's the point if they don't last ..... besides the cost, they could let you down when you really need them. ..... ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Tx Warren, that's interesting. I would have thought the silverstars would give less lumen, as that have been around for years. Had them in my SFA. Then Osram brought out the night breakers (which are supposed to be better)

Have had no problems with other on-coming traffic flashing me.

Quote:
Here are the results:
20 000 lux - Cheap and nasty globes from Makro
29 000 lux - Osram Nightbreakers
37 000 lux - Osram Silverstars
43 000 lux - Koito globes as supplied standard in the Prado

These Lux levels do not seem correct. A 250 watt flood light, Metal Hallied lamp HQI only produces 26 000 lux according to GE specifications.

I want to go and pick me up a set.
Other option was Silver Stars because the problems with reliability some people have experienced.

Heinrich I think that the first one's might have had some issues with relaibility, but I use mine a lot and in 6 months haven't had a moments problem with them.

I'm actually going to get me another set to fit to the spotlights as well so that all the lights in the front is white and bright.

Hi Mark
Thanks for the prompt reply .I see in the hand book that they state the following :
Headlights low beam 55w type H11 Halogen bulbs
Headlights High Beam 60w HB3 Halogen bulbs
Fog Lights 51w HB4 Halogen Bulbs
Could one not just get 3 pairs of the Night breakers and make all the same ? Please excuse the ignorance .We did not have this luxury in my `83 land rover,LWB series 3 hard top
Look forward to your and possible other members advice thanks so much
Kind regards
Pierre

No unfortunately not, each lamp ie. H1,H2.H3 ....H11 have different filament positions and will therefore not work effectively by changing them. I would start by looking for H11 noghtbreakers for a sart, youu may have difficulty finding them though....!

Ja,

Ek is n groot Osram Nightbreaker fan.
