Hilux modification market research – feedback required

Post by numbi »

this is one for all you guys that liked the arctic truck
this is my own home grown customised Hilux it has
1) 35 x 12.5 R 15 bfg all terrain tyres on 15 x 10jj mags
2) 2 inch body lift
3) 2 inch suspension lift
4) customised fibreglass wide wheel arches / over fenders
5) and a whole lot of modifying that goes with fitting the above

I would appreciate it if you will look at the pictures and send any feedback
that you have both positive and negative as I am doing this as market research
so as to ascertain if I must start up a business building these hiluxes .

ps next step is a rotrex supercharger

thanks
chez

Chez, looks neat, I like  Not 100% sure I like the rim selection, but that's just my personal opinion.

Now the big question.......costs?

I like the fender flares more than those on the Arctic Trucks, it looks a lot better, not so bulgy. You make your own?

Chez, seeing as you developed the fender flares yourself, here is a tip.

If you can develop and produce fender flares for the SFA Hilux, that are not too bulky and looks almost like those on the IFS Hilux, then I am sure you'll pick up quite a few sales here on the forum.

Chez, it seems that there are a couple people that is contemplating this business. I read in the latest LW that Pa Bear is also playing with the same ideas. I don't necessary think it's a bad thing to have more than one set up offering! I guess Price, and the quality of the upgrade could set you apart. For instance, what suspension upgrade to you offer? Has it been tested in rough conditions? I remember reading a test that Giniel de Villiers did on the Artic Trucks conversion vs the LA Sport Nivara. And the Nivara came second best due to suspension and choice of tires. +- R200 000 is a lot to spend if you don't know what you are buying! So if it's not tested buy a couple of Hilux 'ers and Overland 'ers then I would find it hard to lay out that cash!

So for me, put your creation to the test, before offering it to the public. Find your niche to what the others are offering. There is definitely a market for this, but not everyone would just spend that money because of looks, or flares that looks better than the next guys.

Im interested in how you can clear 35x12.5" wide tyres on a 10" wide wheel on the bodymount with just a 2" suspension and 2" body and still expect any form of decent suspension travel?

Only about one month has gone by since started so maybe still early days?

First thing I'd like to have on my Hilux is some way to change the gearbox that it will turn the 265/75/16 tyres in 5 th gear......... The 2.5 is not ideally geared in 5th for that. Then I'd love a set of thOse flash fender flares PLEASE.

I don't know about the body lift cause then I have to lift front and rear bumpers....... :tease:

Now firstly I want to paint Dreadnought traffic cone orange....... :blushing:

Chez, looks great. I'd definitely be interested in flares for the SFA, if you decide to make them.
