What is the correct size front spacers
I recently installed the front leveling spacers after I had a winch fitted. The spacer is 30mm thick. I have been told that the max distance should not be more that 780mm
This is my actual measurments taken before and after
FL 760 FR 765 BEFORE
FL 805 FR 810 AFTER
Is this too much. Should I replace it with a 20mm spacer. Does one get 20mm spacers.
All I want to achieve is to have it the same as before I fitted the winch. I must also mention that I have OME suspension (medium) fitted

Re: What is the correct size front spacers
Yes Mark..I have the ARB bumper and winch fitted with steel cable
Re: What is the correct size front spacers
I have had 10mm (steel) spacers made for this exact reason. So if 10mm does not do it for you you can add to it or remove

Re: What is the correct size front spacers
A frend, had 20mm space installed but only got 20mm lift. The bakkie was 870mm in front now 890mm and the back is 930mm. The 2010 D/c 4x4 has the standard suspension. Is this normal or is the coils the problem.
Re: What is the correct size front spacers
That seems very odd. Did he have any other excessories fitted, like winch or after market bumper?du Toit wrote:A frend, had 20mm space installed but only got 20mm lift. Re: What is the correct size front spacers
Very, very odd......I doubt this, never heard of it unless as you mention something els may be wrong?
Re: What is the correct size front spacers
Could you possibly mail me pics of the spacers fitted, close-up! I met a guy this weekend with 20mm spacers fitted and they were incorrect or shall I say not the correct type.....du Toit wrote:A frend, had 20mm space installed but only got 20mm lift. Re: What is the correct size front spacers
I fitted 30mm spacers and gained about 58-60mm lift up front:
FL 710 FR 713 BEFORE
FL 770 FR 770 AFTER
All good for me know

Re: What is the correct size front spacers
Now that i'm in the Vigo clan, spoke to Allan(Hoppy) about a little supension/body lift... he says 40mm is that max you should go on the suspension, anything more and the driveshaft/cv angle passes the critical point and CV failure becomes imminent!
Re: What is the correct size front spacers
Is that 40mm spacer or lift? And how are you going to know exactly which spacers to fit?Mr_B wrote:Now that i'm in the Vigo clan, spoke to Allan(Hoppy) about a little supension/body lift... he says 40mm is that max you should go on the suspension, anything more and the driveshaft/cv angle passes the critical point and CV failure becomes imminent!

Re: What is the correct size front spacers
My first post refers to a max recommended amount that I read somewhere but cannot remember where I read it. If I recall correctly it should not be more than 790mm. I also don't want to break anything. Hence the reason why I posted my question.
Now in the meantime I have read some more which now even confuses me more. To make a long story short, if one does not remove the top and bottom bump stops then you are still operating within the manufactures specification. Although you have "lifted" the front end you are still Ok. What you have done on the negative side is made the downward travel less.
So does it really make a difference what size spacers one fits...as long as you don't remove the bump stops..For sure if one fit the max spacer then you would be on the bump stop permanently and hence no downward travel. but still in the manufactures spec....or have I got hold of the wrong side of the stick

Re: What is the correct size front spacers
To make a short story I am removing the spacers. The handeling seemed a bit unstable and also some funny noise comming from the front left. Will replace the OME coil springs with heavy duty (was medium). They would be OK without the aftermarket suspension.
Measurments were taken from the bottem of the rim to the wheel arch.
Paid R800.00 for the spacers...any offers

I have a feeling the problem is/was not the spacers, did you do them yourself or someone else did?

Re: What is the correct size front spacers
I have just checked my measurements and the:
front left: 680mm
front right: 685 mm
guess I might have to replace shocks, any opinions or suggestions??

Re: What is the correct size front spacers
Hey Donkey, no I did not fit them myself. I had one of the 4x4 fitment centers fit them and they told me not to fit them on top of the OME coil....but you know how it works...we always know more ....(say no more)Donkey wrote:I have a feeling the problem is/was not the spacers, did you do them yourself or someone else did?
