Ironman suspension on Vigo

Post by oxydog »

Can some of the guys who have done this please give a short review with pro's and con's? I'm considering this for my 4.0 V6. I know there are also other options with spacers to give some lift, any advice will be greatly appreciated. I've already decided not to over-invest (eg. OME), since I will be selling this truck again in 4 years.

Not yet, Mark, but I'll definitely do that. I've been using Safari's on my SFA for years of serious off-roading and they've never disappointed.

Hi Janus.
What I would look at is what do you actually need?
1)Shocks very important how are yours at the moment?
2)Any extra weight added on front of vehicle.
3)Do you need a load carrying leaf set-up?
4)Do you want to improve ridability and stability of the vehicle?
5)What do you want to achieve from doing an upgrade?

I can then see what would suite you and your budget and see what we
could put togethor.
Regards
Darrell

Thanks Darrell.

1) Shocks are fine, looking for some added ground clearance
2) Custom built integrated bullbar, probably similar weight to ARB
3) No, comfort is more important
4) See 3, although stability is also important
5) Ground clearance and a smooth ride. I have an SFA for seriuos off-roading, so the 4.0 V6 is for long trips and occasional off-roading.

Appreciated,
Jarus

:wth:

Yes there is. The Lift will be +/- 40mm front and back about 50mm. That will be if the Vigo is "out the box" new. If it is an Older Hilux Vigo remember one have make up the sag 1st, then it comes to about 65mm in front and almost 80mm in the back.

Remember the right coils & leafsprings must be chosen to achieve it. It means the extra weight that is permantly on the vehicle have to be taken in account.

Example if light duty is choosen and there is a aftermarket bumper & winch on it, it will have half the lift and wont work!!

A Few Pictures of a Rust de Winter about 2 years ago, it already had the Ome in for 3 years.

Front Replacement bumper and 9500 pound winch= +/-98kg.

Heavy duty front, heavy duty back. (Back, Ali Canopy 60kg, Penthouse tent 90kg, drawer system 35kg, Aux tank 60lt=60kg, Double wheel carrier and bumper = 105kg and 60lt water=60kg. That is what is on the vehicle all the time, then food, tools etc. come in later.

The Hilux travelled sofar about 163 000km over 5 years, like you see on trips and normal driving, we think of replacing the shocks.
