lifting the Vigo

Post by sealan »

Dear anyone, can you give me your best advise for lifting up my Vigo?
I've read about spacers for the front and polybushes for the rear for the as well as "the proper" but expensive lifts.
can you tell me the differences?
I intend to get clearance to have larger tyres as well as clearing deep ruts.
I mainly go into Jungle with some river crossings.
Appreciate the advise...

Hi Alan, Welcome

The spacers are more for leveling the front than lifting, there is no cheap solution to lift your hilux.

Inserting spacers without checking the consequesses alters the geometry, so you could end up with premature failure on the drive trains.

Alan WELCOME to the forum.

As for lifting / leveling the Hilux - what do you want to do / achieve ??

if you just want to level it - the spacers will do the job.

BUT, if you are going to be lugging about a heavy holiday load .... might as well invest in a proper suspension setup once off ..... (the first time I LOADED my Hilux it looked like it was driving uphill, a proper Ironman suspension set and she is permanently running level)

Thanks for the advise,
I currently have a 1.5" spacer to level out my front.
After a few outings, I crave for higher clearing but dunno what approach to have for the lift.
Am currently running 31" maxxis Mud tires. Planning for 33-35" XTs.
Otherwise the Vigo 06' is stock standard.
Will try to upload a picture for further advise.

+30kg for the bumper
+45kg for the winch and brackets
+ ??kg for the high lift

I see a set of aftermarket coils and shocks in your future .... :)

Alan just a bit more info to put my previous post in context.

One would normally use less than a 1'' spacer to level the Hilux. Due to all the weight the 1,5'' spacer was used. The Hilux should be level now, but with a compressed shock ! This setup will limit your wheel travel ....

hi all, after a long hiatus from this forum, it's time to update on what i have done to the lux.

Decided to try to go all out to fit in 35" tyres.
Loaned 35" XT and rims from my buddy to test clearance after some tough work.
Rear Profender with additional 3" travel, 2.5" Leaf lift.
Front 1.5" lift and
Front, lots of chopping and grinding up to the part of the extended chassis.
All round 2.5" Body Lift with Poly spacers.
Of course the usual mods on the radiator, fuel inlet extension, steering rod extension, etc...
Massive welding and strengthening of the front and rear bumpers, toughest was the front bullbar...

Here it is.

Am still looking for -5 offset rims and 35" Mud tyres.

Have figured a plan what to run next.

will change absorber with additional 2" travel and matching coils
Will modify the CV half shafts to extend them longer, and will machine to balance them out.

Due to the degree of the suspension lift, further stress will occur on the cv joints, especially the bearings, so just gotta keep spares at the back of the truck.
Have looked at drop kits and it'll not work well for my kind of terrain with lots of rocks and mud.

So this is a compromise.

Let me know your thoughts and opinion
