Lights and Spots..Halogen v LED
So I did a little experiment over the weekend with my vehicles and lights.
I recently purchased a set of LED spots from Peter at 4x4 Direct being very interested in LED lighting. I had a set of Warn 50w Halogen spots on my Lux, but was very eager to see how the LED's compare so I devised a little plan.
Not being easy to find a completely dark area in the the suburbs I used our complex driveway as a base. The house at the bottom is 140m from where I stand.
For interest the Fortuner is completely standard. On the Lux I have got Osram Night Breaker Plus Globes and in the spots as well!
All pictures were taken under the exact same lighting conditions with the exact same settings on the camera.
For interest I compared my wife's 2010 Fortuner as well.
It is interesting to note that the Halogen spots has got more penetration (As I expected), BUT the LED's give way more light and driving around the sides of the road is much more visible.

Re: Lights and Spots!
Goeie inligting dankie. Hoe vergelyk die pryse van die halogeen spots met die van die LEDs?

Re: Lights and Spots!
Halogen is huidiglik die goedkoopste. LED is redelik duur en HID is ook bitter duur.

Re: Lights and Spots..Halogen v LED
Thanks Bennie for sharing, am I correct to say the Hilux's dim is brighter than the Tunas?
I think it's unfair to compare the two i.e. halogen and LED since they're in different leagues, and yes LED's are way brighter.
Myself have been contemplating on moving towards LED's also, but may still keep a set of halogen spots more for "reach" since I don't think LED's can shine further than spots , but I could be wrong. Also on LED's your current consumption is so low

Re: Lights and Spots..Halogen v LED
Still on the topic, which of these LED spots, the 1800 lumens or the 3600 lumens, http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/led-spo ... -p-515.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, would be closer in diameter (width), as compared to the halogen Hela fitting?

Very interesting to see....
Thinking of going the LED way and when you see outcomes like this it just makes you want it even more....

Re: Lights and Spots..Halogen v LED
I saw Caskru's LED bar in action and must say that was also very impresive.
Seem that LED technology are the way to go these days.

Re: Lights and Spots..Halogen v LED
Donkey, My honest opinion is that the Fortuner's standard lights are better that the Hilux! If you look at the unit you will see it has a built in lens where the hilux does not.
