to chip or not to chip

Post by Bester »

I am not satisfied with the performance (both fuel consumption and responsiveness) of my 2013 3.0D4D. My previous one, a 2009 model was much better.

Anybody that has some experience with fitting a chip - it this worth it and what chip should I go for?

Hoppy will say go for it.. he cant wait to get his grubby little paws on my D4D...   I am resisting profusely..

Seriously, we have a friend who had a chip fitted, and he is very happy with the results. It doens turn it into a racer, but much better accelleration for overtaking and an improvement in fuel consumption as well. I dont know exactly what chip, but Hoppy will be able to tell you.

My BIL recently chipped his 2012 Fortuner auto, he is very happy witht he chip in it. The one thing he was really impressed with was that whilst driving 120km/h and wanting to overtake, the auto did not kick back to 3rd, but just accelerated from 4th.

WIll try and find out what make.

My 2007 D4D is deur Swanepoel Racing Developments gedoen.

My 2 cents

my 3.0 d4d was chipped about 5 years ago (before i got it)

on sunday it would not start. Just swings. but a healthy swing.

turns out the issue is the uniQ chip. we removed it and now the van is fine.

however till now it has been excellent. good consumption (better than stock), excellent power and no issues

i get 10 to 11km / L

Slightly OT,

On my Kz I had the intercooler and chip done in November 2005. Today, almost 300 000km later, it is still puling like a steam train on meths!

In my case, fuel consumption has stayed the same, keeping in mind I do 90% city driving.

My "new" V6 came with a SAC's Unichip. Apparantly the vehicle was only chipped without doing the branches or decat.

Looking at the towbars fitted front and rear, it was probably done to make towing a boat easier. The Dyno papers was with the vehicle's documents.

What do you make of the results?

You vehicle peak power output is 187 Kw @ 5000 rpm and the torque curve is peaking around 2000 to 3000 rpm and dropping of from 4000 rpm as you gain the numbers on the power

kw = speed/accelleration, Torque (Nm) = pulling power
