After 165000 kms it was time.

Firstly Allan sourced a Sachs clutch kit for my Hilux. Then we sent it off to Frans Fourie who applied some extra heavy duty hoodoo voodoo to the pressure plate in the form of stronger fingers or whatever this entails...

Today was the day. The existing clutch was worn to the rivets, the release bearing sang like Leonard Cohen's gravelly deep voice and the pressure plate had a ring worn away where it met the release bearing every time the clutch pedal was depressed. So it was indeed time!!
As part of the surgery I asked that he also cut out the DPF (diesel particulate filter) which should be pretty clogged after 160000 odd kms.. And at the same time I asked that he cut out the oil drum sized silencer, and replace it with a smaller free-flow item. I am not expecting fire works or even a noticeable increase in power, (freaking hell, it is a diesel after all!! ) but I am expecting some better breathing from the engine side...

The Hilux is still on the lift, but I expect it back a little later this afternoon..

Ek sou graag wou hoor wat presies hulle doen met die "pressure plate" en ook wat die ander knaldemper doen.

Ek weet nie presies watse voodoo hy toepas nie, maar blykbaar vervang hulle die pressure plaat se vingers met stywer groter meneer vingers. Dit maak dat die clutch plaat beter vasdruk?? Ek is nie so clued up met die goeters nie.. Maar dit werk..

Ek het hom nog net in die verkeer gery vanmore, maar dit voel of hy meer responsive is. Hy haal beslis beter asem.. En hy raas nie, wel, nie onnodig baie nie..

nope havent done that yet.. wait till after the whole Q4 thing.. and thats only going to happen in a little while ..

Some feedback.

Drove around a bit on the weekend. Open road and stuff. There is a definite improvement in power. The Hilux feels much more responsive and the pulling power is definitely better. Not mind blowingly so, but enough to make it a nicer vehicle to drive. Overtaking is also better.

Maybe it is the 165000km of diesel particles that clogged the DPF.. I dont know.. but I like what I feel..

Ek het ook so n Q4 in die bakkie, en laat ek jou se, hy trek nou soos n stoomtrein!!

Ek weet nie watter ander mods behalwe die exhaust jy gedoen het nie, maar die Q4 alleen het n massiewe impak! LA sport se hilux het die Q4 met n freeflow en n front-mount intercooler, bygese hy het ook n meneer clutch mos opsit. Jy moet laatweet watse syfers jy kry as hy op die dyno was

For now I am happy with it as it is... it is a lot more responsive and lighter on fuel???

Maybe I will leave it as it is until after the Bull Run in October.. If it gets dropped by a Ranger/Amarok on the drag strip again I might change my plans..
