Central locking issue

My central locking suddenly started giving trouble. It only locks the door sometimes. Tried fitting a new battery in remote but still the same. Anyone had this issue or know how to fix it?

A buddy of mine had the same issue with his Fortuner. Had to replace the central locking control box under the dash

As Cassie says, the problem could be with the central locking unit itself, but this would normally only be the case if the problem is across all 4 doors.

If the problem is only on 1 or 2 doors, then the problem most likely lies with the servo unit inside that particular door. For some reason they seem to get a bit weak over time and I have found that if one opens up and checks that all the locking linkages as well as the lock itself are free (not stiff), then the servo needs replacement. If they are stiff, which sometimes is the case, then lubing the lock (with WD40) and the linkages (I use MS grease), this often gets everything working lekker again.

Check it out yourself, and if the servo needs to be replaced it's an easy enough DIY job. :winkx:

Thanks will lube each door but Its all 4 doors together that wont lick so i presume its the unit under dash. I also presume its costly.Where exactly is the unit?

No idea of the cost, Robert and also not sure where it's located on your model (on the SFA it's behind the LHS kick-panel).

Get a price from the agents, but also check with private alarm / immobiliser installers. The chances are that these units are outsourced by Toyota and not manufactured by them - could be something like Sanji, Autowatch, Soundmatch, Logitec etc.

Have a look here ( http://www.assist247.co.za/matrix/areas ... -auto.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) to find an installer near you.

Good luck. :winkx:

The symptoms on the Fortuner was that it would flash the lights but not lock the doors.

The unit is below the steering on the left hand side.

I think it's actually called an integration unit. Evidently a reasonable common problem

If anyone is interested i had to buy the integration unit from Toyota at a cost of R2300. Fitted it myself. Not too difficult. Just a tight space. All working perfect now! Part 827300K021. BLOCK ASSY, DRIVER SIDE JUNCTION.
