You will need this adapter if you do a body lift

Post by SYRON CONVERSIONS »

There are a few special items that you will require if or when you lift the body of your vehicle, here I show you this special adapter, what it does is lengthens the steering rod, normally when you lift the cab body, most people just loosen the bolt and nut on the splines, but depending how high you lift the body, this will make an inpact on the amount of splines
"flesh" that you have left to clamp, this this adapter will solve this problem, you can buy it from http://www.snakeracing.co.au go onto their web site and check it out, we have three on order, if anybody wants one, then let us know and we can order more.

It is manufactured for The Hilux with the SFA

Maybe, but we recon that if a person is going to fit larger tyres, lower crawler gears, lockers front and rear, it is important that the steering rods from the steering wheel top shaft down to the power steering box are strong enough to take all this extra torque, I will take a photo and show you how much splined section of the steel rod I have left that is been clamped, then you will understand why, I would rather fit this mod, than cut and add and join in another piece of pipe or solid bar extension to the existing steering rod, as you know, when two different type of steel are welded together, the actual molicules of the steel do not always bind correctly, thuis is why the welding does not normally break, but the metal nearby can.

The body lift spacer is 60mm, but I have also used the std rubber and round support metal bracket as well, thus together it is 80mm.

I went out to the workshop and took these pic's for you, if you look carefully at the splines on the steering shaft, you will see there is about 10mm of meat left that is been clamped, I am not happy with this.

The spacer must still be turned upright.

Thanks Simon

Do you think it will be as bad on a 50mm lift?

No it will be better, you will have more splines to clamp.
