KZ intercooler.
In January I cracked the head on my Hilux (long story, my fault). Replaced it with all that was important. I also then fitted a Madman EGT. I battled to get the temp below 650 deg, and this was without towing my caravan. Could not find a new 76 deg thermostat.
Contacted Christo at Cirus intercoolers and fitted one. The temp came down considerably. I could keep the speed constant at around 120km/h without having to worry about the egt (that is going up hill and the rest), again without towing.
This past weekend I towed to Warmbaths. And the result was very good. No high egt, stayed around 610 deg on the uphills, and this time I was towing the caravan. The extra power made it possible to maintain the speed (110 km/h). Only on the longer and steeper inclines did I have to select 4th to keep the egt lower than 600. Mostly the egt was around 550 deg. And no, not interested in the chips and the works. Will only change the silencer with a freeflow box, then I am done.
Fuel consumption for the return trip (Pta-Warmbaths-Pta) gave me 7km/l at a steady speed of 110 km/h. Should have done this earlier. I only need to get soem expanded metal protection in front of the cooler, then I can put the bullbar and winch back for the trip to Kgalagadi in Dec.

Re: KZ intercooler.
Good to hear.
I am also interested in a IC,but also do not want to do the chip.
Did you do the installation yourself?

George, yes. In this case the kit consisted of all bits and pieces you need, except for the hole saw. Took me a Saturday to do the installation. The removal of all other equipment took longer.....
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: KZ intercooler.
Go for the free flow exhaust and modify your air filter to free flow. It makes a HUGE difference!

Re: KZ intercooler.
Something I need to look into for early next year, how much was the kit if I may ask?

Paid R4300-00, IIRC. But worth it.

Thanks Ockert, agree if you think about the cost to replace the head, it's way well worth it.

Ockert
Just be alert that the pipe at the turbo comes off at times. Keep extra clamps in the car and sockets to tighten the clamps and don't forget about the gloves. I've put 2 clamps on and it is still in place from end 2011.
My findings are the same as yours, but I've done the chip as well - best money spent on my Lux

Hi Ockert,
If I understand correctly you tow ur caravan in 5th?
If so, do you think that's wise?
Just a thought.

Why not? Towed the van around 15000km, whenever I can, I use 5th. What would be the problem in doing it? BTW, the vehicle has 255000km on the clock, and no issues. But, I do not put unnecessary torque on the drivetrain. When needed, I will go down to 4th.
