Exhaust snorkel

Post by Donkey »

SA4x4 copy of November, page 19, I see they now sell exhaust snorkels, with a non-return valve should the vehicle cut out while doing deep water crossings.

You thoughts?

Just slip a lenngth of bicycle tubing over the exhaust ..... it will collapse if you stall and act as a valve, for a while anyway .... probably long enough to be recovered. ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

There are so many bends in the pipe, I think it will make an air lock before the water will get to the engine
Especially the bit where the pipe goes over the diff.

I agree with Pieter..

That should give you an interesting exhaust note.....afterall an exhaust is a device to get rid of unwanted gasses. :focus:

Something to ponder on, in any case if proper water procedures are followed one should not be stalling the engine, just that we tend not to do it as supposed to

:D: ..... you don't leave it on, just slip it on for a deeper crossing. :D:

Tumelo, it's true that one should not stall the motor and with a diesel that's not difficult but with electrical ignition sometimes things get wet that shouldn't.

I tend to agree with Andy.Slip a piece bicycle tube over the exhaust whe doing very deep river crossings. The water will prevent the tube from burning and one will remove it anyway after the water crossing. That snorkel contraption will only take up space and will ultimately be left at home and thus be worhless. Thats mtcw.
