Finally fitted the OEM ecu on 7mge

Post by Gunta »

After 6 years of Gotech and Dictator and many dynos later and averaging at 5.3km/ I finally found a airflow meter and computerbox. All is fitted and running, needs to get a dyno and fine tune but on the setup at the moment I am getting 6.6km/l This is a vast improvement which can only get better once I fit a dastec chip.

Guta is die chip nie bietjie soos "defeating the object" nie. Jy het nou jou OEM goed nou wil jy dit modify :reading:

Not quite, because at least with the OEM all the sensors are connected and I should get the same power but with better fuel consumption. I dont know what the power is but it feels pretty much the same as before. It starts better in the morning and is running much smoother. I am much happier with it now. I have a Dastek chip at home, so it wont cost me anything other than to have it fitted and dyno tuned. I know you said your brother is a fundi with Gotech, but I have been battling to tune this engine for so long now. At least I can fix this bakkie anywhere now without having to worry about losing maps and other bollie.

Jaco, I am not going to run anyone down but Gotech themselves dyno'd my bakkie 4 times, Rightway developments in Midrand 2 times (The owner is not very honest and takes customers for a ride)
RBTS Racing also did it 2 times and then he fitted the Dictator and we did it another 2 times (very helpful guy and does alot of these vehicles)
I only got 3.5km/l when Rightway dyno'd it. With the other 2 it was pretty much the same between 5.3 and 5.8km/l
I agree with you on the cold start, it was never running properly.
I think the OEM is running a bit lean at the moment because on very light throttle it jerks a bit. Will have to have that sorted out, but all in all I am happy with the way its running at the moment. You must also remember the 4x4 is much heavier on fuel than the 4x2, so I think around 7km/l would be damn good. Anything over that would be in diesel category.

I don't think CHOMPF knows what he is getting, he said he still needs to fill it up and check exactly how much. From what I saw he thinks it was 8.6km/l
We should check up on him now and get an update.

You have a different engine which is much newer than the 7mge, but I would like to speak to CHOMPF after a month or so and see how happy he is. If he is still happy then I will go and visit your brother and have a Gotech fitted.

Chom in die game het jy of krag of jou bakkie is ekkonomies maar al twee is soos wors in n hondehok, die naaste wat jy aan dit kom is met n 1JZ GTE, AMEN :crazy2:
Oja
Dan moet dit n manual gearbox wees met n after-market ECU   My broer se 4x2 met die 2JZ GE in is vinniger en ligter op brandstof as my 4x4 en dit gaan alles oor ratio's en gewig.

A 4x2 will always be quicker than a 4x4 because of weight and height. It would be nice to have the fuel consumption when you drive like miss daisy and when you feel the urge to put the pedal down it will be heavier on juice.
Does your boet have a dyno or is he tuning on the road?

The standard ECU sounds like the best bet to me! Glad you came right.

I also had endless problems with cold starts with the Dicktator, and the Unichip will fine tune the engine and hopefully get more horses out too :)

Its easy to cover tuning issues with fuel. the americans have done it with their HUGE carbs for years :)

I personally know the guys who developed the GoTech and the ProX is a fantastic piece of kit but like any tool its only as good as the guy who uses it so the installer is of paramount importance.

BTW I get 9.5 - 11 Km/l on my Diesel 3C-T straight out of the scrap yard without a dyno! and I still have taken her to 170Km (pics to proveit too)
