2JZ vs 1UZ vs 2KD
Hi guys, I would like some input regarding these two motors as I am currently toy-ing with the idea of putting one of these two engines in my D4D. Here are some stats:
2.5 D4D 75kw/260Nm
2JZ vvti 206kw/451Nm (wiki)
1UZ vvti 216kw/406Nm (wiki)
Now I have read the debates regarding petrol turbo's and 4x4ing. Some of the points raised:
-Wheel spin coming onto boost while negotiating obstacles
-Ploughing up the country side
-Damaging drivetrain components
-Insufficient torque off idle
Now my logic is this:
-My 2.5 is dead
-I have negotiated some hectic stuff (rocks, mud and sand) with this lack of horses and it faired ok
-At 7,5km/lt it is not light
-0-100km/h 3days
-0-80km/h towing 2 weeks with no stops
You get where I'm coming from.....
Now I'm leaning toward the 2JZ for the following reasons:
-Smaller capacity engine will give better fuel consumption
-Being turbo'd there possibilties for big power with these engines
-If an aftermarket ecu is used then the use of launch control for big torque off the mark is possible
I will be towing a caravan occasionally so I need some power. With the current price of diesel and the higher costs associated with diesel servicing and repairs the petrol route is becoming all the more tempting
Whilst the rumble of the V8 is awesome the screaming 6 is something to behold

Re: 2JZ vs 1UZ vs 2KD
Groete

Re: 2JZ vs 1UZ vs 2KD

Re: 2JZ vs 1UZ vs 2KD
But why???
Sell the 2.5 and buy a V6 Vigo - no teething problems, no waiting time, no broken gearboxes, etc.
And IF you need more power, fit a TRD supercharger!

Vir die geld om n V6 Vigo te koop en dan later n TRD charger op te sit is dit beter om die bakkie te hou en 3UZFE in te sit . Ek het die som gemaak om my Fortuner te supercharged- 3UZFE volgens my beter opsie.

Re: 2JZ vs 1UZ vs 2KD
I will do some more research on how each engine makes its power. I would prefer the manual gearbox option. Alex, where would I be able tp get my hands on an original ecu for either motor including the wiring loom?

Dylan look at http://www.enginesandmore.co.za/ you can buy a complete front cut then you have the engine and all the electronics you need.

Hilux Gen 6 1UZFE Conversation
So I've taken the plunge and ordered a 1UZFE with the OEM ecu and wiring. So hopefully it will be here next week so I can get the rest going. I am looking for the following:
1. Flywheel
2. Bellhousing to suit my gearbox
3. Clutch kit: I will source local on this
Next question: I have the thicker D4D radiator in and its brand new. Would those of you who have played with the 1UZ know if this radiator has sufficient cooling capacity for this motor?
And very soon I will have a 2KD for sale....
