WHO DOES THE PROPER LEXUS V8 CONVERSIONS

i have been reading about a hellava lot of botched conversions
guys not getting what is promised
guys forking out plenty of hard earned cash for a sub standard conversion
guys waiting months on end for their vechiles to be done
i've even seen plenty of vechiles for sale with half done conversions

SO , here goes
who does the best ?
who is the most reliable ?
who provides a reliable and cost effective conversion ?
who makes good on their so called promises ?
does it start with the initial purchase of the motor?
What does a perfect conversion entail ?

or is this a gamble , choose your number , throw cash at it and hope for the best

i have considered the hilux option (my son wants a monster truck painted like spiderman or hulk) and hilux is a cost effective route to follow, have always been a hilux fan.
they are capable in the correct hands , so are many other vechiles.
i have done stuff with a old 2,2 hilux that made people stand and wonder.

so to answer the question , to convert --- NO
maybe a extra addition to the garage

Slowly!!! He has always been one at heart.

I can’t say if it is worth it or not but I did 2 months of research and decided to go for it. I would recommend 2 guys. The one is BLOM in Krugersdorp. Have seen his work and looks excellent. Don’t know all he does but the work he does looks good.

The second would be a guy named Samuel, He is in PTA. Now you can buy the engine directly from him if you are doing your own conversion or he can do the conversion for you.

He asks R40k and then he tells you to bring your van in and leave him alone for a maximum of a month. He preps the V8 and does all wiring with standard ECU. He does not believe in Dictator, Spits and so on. Takes your engine out and fits the V8. He does all the work mechanically as well as all the electronics. So basically when you go to collect your car it runs with nothing left to be done. You drop your car off and drive it away a month later. I have seen his work and looks good. Looks like it came like that from the factory.
I did mine myself, sure it has taken a long time but at least I can say I did it and it cost me not even R30k.

My suggestion would be is if you are not in a hurry, do it yourself. Buy the motor, strip it and rebuild it. Put a spits on it and the wiring is sorted. Get the rest as you go along. Or go buy a front end and you have everything you need.

PS, Jeep Wranglers are purpose built vehicles and are awesome and FUN. If I had the cash I would also have one standing in my garage.

a couple of huys here that have done MANY conversions, and it appears they do a decent job of it - they show their photos here, and some of their clients are on this forum as well.

I did mine myself, not finished yet.
It takes me longer because I'm rebuilding the Hilux completely and I work in Angola.
At the end of the project or conversion (doing it yourself) you know exactly what you have, no nasty surprizes or short cuts.

Exactly! You should be honored that I dignify you with a response...

Anyway... Yup, Blom does great work, but keep in mind he does it for a hobby and only works on it when he has time. So if you are impatient, rather go elsewhere. If you can spare a few months, then I can absolutely recommend his work.

Other than Blom, I'm not sure. Chat to Louis from 4x4Megaworld Menlyn, but he would also only be able to work on it in his spare time. Whoever you chose, just make sure they take pride in their work and chat to previous customers to verify any claims.

As for a motor, Lexus would be my personal choice. 2JZ is undriveable offroad due to the turbos kicking in. 7MGE is a great and proven conversion, but the motors are now getting old. 3RZ is also a great conversion, but quite expensive. First prize of course would be a 2UZ...

Well I went past lextreme this evening and I kust say Tim knows what he is talking about and one of the nicest guys ever. If you want advice, help contact him. Also contact him if you are interested in buying a v8. Work looks good and wiring is done. Just plug and plag.

The main reason I have decided to rather not go the V8 Lexus route is possible reliability issues of the drive train - prop shafts/half shafts, diffs, brakes etc.

Question: Can the old SFA takes the Lexus power and maintain its legendary reliability?

Ons het Scorpion sin reg gekry met die drivetrain. Hy hardloop op 35" bande so die stres is hoer as 'n tipiese 31", ook die feit dat hy ook hoer is met sy suspensie en alle propshaft angles ook erger is as die gewone. Ek dink Johann kan vir 'n slag sy Hilux geniet.

Dit moet net mooi deurdink word en alle versterkings moet gedoen word. Baie belangrik, regte flywheel, regte adapter plate, BlumTRD(Dawid) maak 'n bitter goeie ene.

Kyk, ek het met myne begin laaaank voor al die mooi parte, ens beskikbaar was. Baie van die goed was en is eksperimenteel. Wat ek wel kan se is dat alles sal hou as jy behoorlik ry. As jy soos 'n taxi drywer gaan ry gaan jy verseker goed breek. Al wat ek nog gebreek het was my clutch en die gearbox se input shaft, maar dit sal gebeur as jy 'n taxi wat jou inparkeer het uit die pad uit stoot...

time has been a real big issue, lucky my courier is still running

however add a jeep Grand Cherokee with a sweet sounding V8, and time becomes even a bigger problem

still plan on doing my conversion, however sometimes better to go buy a vehicle that already has a V8 out the factory
