Mooi man, Blommie! Ons is uiteindelik terug in Duitsland ( waar die mense BAIE vriendeliker is  ) en uiteindelik uit mislike Czech uit. Kuier bietjie by my swaer en skoonsuster, maar dis &%(§ koud ( - 16C !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )

Went to see Scorpion's Uber Lux today. All I can say is: WOW!

I heard the GROWL of the V8, still not fitted with exhausts but emits a real mean growl. I studied the brakes, looked at the suspension, and inspected the firewall that Scorpion scrubbed so deliciously clean with his toothbrush. The whole job looks good, and the end product will be a job well-done. Nothing has been spared in regards to quality.

Well done, guys!

Come on, Eric! You know you want one...

Anyway, bonnet is on, so we are finished with the engine compartment. The clutch has been sorted out and most of the brake lines are now run. If the supplier didn't give us the wrong stainless steel braided hose lines, the brakes would have been finished too. Anyway, once that has been done, it's only the propshafts and exhaust left and then my baby will run!!!

When she is finished you must have a great unavailing/christening party like they have with new ships. Then you can invite us all.

We finished running all the new brake lines last night and the discs are on the rear axle. Now we only need to fabricate brackets for the calipers and bleed the brakes, then she can go for her new propshafts. I'll post some pics later when my ADSL is up and running again.

Ok, so here are the foudies of the disc brake conversion. You'll see we ran all new brakes lines and installed Stainless Steel Braided Hoses. We are currently just making the brackets to hold the rear calipers and should then be done.

(Why doesn't it want to allow bmp files? Irfanview saves everything as such?)

Okay, so it's been a while since I gave you guys an update. Unfortunately I keep forgetting my camera, so foudies are a bit scarce, but I'll try to remember it tonight.

Okay, so we have finished the interior. New gauges to monitor Oil Pressure, Water Temp and Volts are installed in a neat dash pod. The radio and all wires were soldered properly and reinstalled - the radio installation place did a CRAP job! I also cleaned up 20 years worth of dust as best I could from underneath the vinyl flooring and reinstalled everything there. The interior is now done! (untill it gets new seats and everything upholstered in nice leather...  Don't tell SWAMBO... :shh: )

The suspension is complete, the battery installed in it's new home and the new front propshaft fitted. If the propshaft place will hurry up and get my rear one done, then we can drive it to the exhaust place and have that fitted. We finished welding the new front bumper on the weekend and are busy just finishing it off nicely to have it painted.

Guess what? THEN WE ARE DONE and I can finally drive my baby! Cant wait!!!!

Okay, so we finally got the new propshaft, fitted that last night and went for the first drive! IT WAS AWESOME!!!! The power is absolutely amazing, and there is so much available from very low down. We were doing 40km/h in 4th gear, put the throttle down and she goes like a bat out of hell! It was faster doing that, than my 4Y could pull away in 1st! All I can say is who can spin 35"s on pull away - and that in an untuned state.... :wth:

Blom took it for the exhaust this morning and we hope to get it back by Friday, so that we can do the final fine tuning this weekend. (I think Krugersdorp thought they had an earthquake last night, that thing is so loud! A poor teenage boy almost crashed his sooped up Golf when that unsilenced V8 erupted next to him...   )

All I know is I think I still need to upgrade the front brakes... The rear discs make a huge difference, but with all that power I need more. I already contacted Powerbrake and await their reply, but can anybody recommend any other worthwhile brake conversion?

P.S. I deceided to not post anymore pics untill my baby is fully completed - keep you lot in a bit of suspense... But for those who want to see it in real life, we'll be at Rust de Winter later this month. (I promise to post pics before then - maybe... )

Lyk my ek en jy mis mekaar se calls vandag :? :?

Scorps,

I installed Powerbrakes in to Bulldog, and the brakes are fantastic! Money well spent, but run them in in accordance with PB's instructions.

Powerbrake dont have discs for the SFA at the moment. manufacture will only be starting a couple weeks again.
They offer a pad by Bendix now for heavy duty but I would imagine with the V8 you would need racing pads

I would agree with Bennie on this one, you need to change to ventilated discs to get rid of the heat quicker.

I took a 1978 golf with small square pads and thin discs and dropped a 2.0 motor in it, it couldn't stop for sh!t.
So I upgraded to the CTI vent disc and calipers, what a difference, and far better than the solid disc especially for high speed stopping.

That is exactly why I want to upgrade further and definitely want to go for a ventilated disc as well. The brakes are great with the rear disc conversion, but with the V8 I know I will use the power and need to be able to stop without too much heat build up and brake fade.

What calipers would be the best upgrade (bigger) to go with the vented discs?

The problem why your brakes fade when the system heats up, is due to fact that the compound on the pads "emit" a gas when they heat up which is then trapped between the pad and disk, very similar to aqua-planing tyres on a wet road. So yes plain ventilated disks running cooler do help prevent this but the disks that Powerbrake supply have the grooves in running outwards from the centre, it acts like the grooves in your tyres removing the gas so that the pads make contact, even if you have solid disks like mine with the grooves your brake fade is much less.

Another method used to overcome the gas issue is to cross drill the disks (many bikes has this too).

I ran a set of this cross drilled ventilated disks on my GTi as I also had serious brake fade issues.

Johann

This Cruiser70 callipers is not a bad idea, if the combined piston surface area on the 4 pot calliper is larger then stock, you will get the same affect as with a smaller master cylinder as it works on the ratio between the master and slave and the bigger the ratio the more pressure is applied at the wheel from the same force applied onto the pedal but you will need more movement on the pedal.

So today was the final day of work for me and Blom. We fitted the new bullbar and modified towbar, tighted the bolts and made sure everything is fixed that should be fixed. My old front discs and pads were "kla" and we decided to sommer fit new ones while I sort out the Power Brakes (if they can get back to me! ). That monster has to stop in the mean time...

This afternoon we took her for her first off road excursion. Very mild, but just to check the articulation and if anything is rubbing. I have to say I haven't ever seen a Hilux flex like that! :wth: :D: The crawler gears are also amazing. This was the first time I drove a vehicle with crawlers and can't believe what they can do! I can't wait to test him at RDW...

Unfortunately we picked up a noisy timing chain this weekend and instead of driving it this week, it will be going for a replacement. Once that's done I hope to get the long range fuel tank before we tackle RDW and then I'm done - for now...

Okay, so Bosbeer (yes, that's his new name! :wth: ) will be going for a full valet on Friday and then I promise to post the foudies! He went in last week to have the Cambelt and Waterpump done and is now running beeaauutifulll! Every thing is 100% and so far there seems to be absolutely no teething problems. Blom did a brilliant job!

I have been driving Bosbeer every day this week and have to say... (dare I say this...?) I like it more than driving my Porsche... I have not had a single car(or taxi!) cut me off. It has the power a a nuclear substation, while being nice and quiet at idle, but depress the funpedal and it sounds like all hell is breaking loose! I also get more stares and points than in any other car I own.

I think it was summed up the best by a construction worker on the back of a Hyuandai bakkie this morning: "Eish, whatta bakkie!"
