Jy moet hom nou sien, Bennie! That was only the test fitment, but me and my "duikpak" spent the whole of Saturday cleaning and scrubbing. The gearboxes look like they have been chromed and the undercarraige looks like it's new. Went through many, many toothbrushes...

The Lexus went in for the final time this Wednesday and is now awaiting the Microtec. I'm unfortunately off to the farm now, but Blom will fit the gearbox this weekend and then we are in the home straight! Can't wait!!!!

Cassie,

It takes a Cheetahs fan to really sort out the men from the boys. Fantastic pictures!

Oh, and nice work Blommie, one of these days you'll be able to don Cheetahs gear as well

I believe we'll be testing it in Klerksdorp very soon :)

Guys, As I understand, they're going to do a write up after the project is finished on what they did and how. Blom gave me quick run down on all the stuff they had to do / have to do... and all I can say is....

The pictures might be worth a thousand words but a thousand words per picture is not enough to describe the level of detail of the stunning job they are doing on the Hilux. That vehicle is going to be a show piece of note and it's going to be wild.

Blommie... Johann.....

Thanks, Cassie for the pictures! As Cassie said, I cannot describe the amount of hours that has gone into my baby. Unfortunately, both me and Blom have a serious sickness called "Obsessive Attention to Detail Syndrome"... That is why this project is taking much, much, much longer than anticipated, but the wait will definetely be worth it! :D: :D: :D:

Anthony, how the hell do you fit 44"s under the arches? I'm only running 35" and already have to trim the arches and the body, as it catches at full articulation. What kind of power does your Lexus make?

A bit of an update: We fitted the new LUK clutch and the "new" gearbox and crawler gears last night. The gearbox has been sprayed satin black just for a nicer look. Blom will also spray the new crossmember this weekend and then that is also done. Now we just need to have new propshafts made and the running gear will be complete (except for the Microtech, which I've been waiting 8 weeks for! )

I forgot to take my camera last night - sorry!

Dis maar okay, Bennie  Ons was nie haastig vir die Microtech nie, maar dit begin ons nou ophou. Ek het hom darem uiteindelik Saterdag gekry en vat hom vanaand vir Blom. Dan kan ons met die wiring begin.

Who knows where I can get a nice hooter for a good price? The Lux's standard hooter is just way too dainty for my taste...

Willem, I bought one yesterday at Autozone (R250!) and fitted it last night, BUT it sounds like a cat in the height of passion... It's much better than normal, but it's still terrible - is this how it should be? :wth:

Definitely not, mine is deep and loud, two hooters, one for the low tone and one for the high tone, if they sound like that then maybe only one is working. They have to work in pairs. Looks like in the picture below.

Where was the cat while you were testing - did you look under your shoe

That is exactly what I bought! Both work, we tested it by swopping, polarity, disconnecting one and also dierctly on a new battery, but it still have this horrible pitched noise. I'm afraid if I hoot at a taxi, they'll think I'm trying to bonk them...

Then there must be something wrong, I have had 3 sets of these and have them on both current cars . Maybe the set was incorrectly packaged with two high tones instead of a low and a high ?

It might be, but the box was sealed. I'll take it back tomorrow and get a refund. In the mean time I need a new horn. Where can I find an airhorn? Or what car has a nice deep horn?

Johann, each of the horns have got two spade terminals, one must go to earth and one must get a positive/power. If you look at the spade terminals you will see that they are isolated from the metal body of the horn, they don't get an earth through the mounting bracket like the others. I just took a piece of wire with a terminal connector from the mounting bracket of the horn to the one spade terminal and put the other one on the power feed. I did not use a relay on my Hilux. It does not seem to matter which terminal you use for earth or power there must just be one of each.

Hope this helps

Johann, the Volvo's tend to have similar horns fitted as what you have bought! Maybe visit a scrapyard to see if you can get a set from either a 850/ S70/V70 or the S 40 Series. I know that these cars, you can hear even in a taxi with its boom box on....

if you are running a lexus V8 in a 1997 hilux 4x4 you won't need to change the oil filter housing as i have a lexus in my hilux and i didn't need to chance my oil filter housing. keep a eye on my topic to see what i mean

Anthony
Dude there is 6 different lexus motors each with a different sump and oil filter configuration.
We also moved the enjin back by working the firewall a tad bit
I will get away with using a smaller filter wich will clear the chassis enough to not tuch when the motor is under torq such as the PH 5911 from Fram, this unfortunately is the easy way out but also the wrong way as the filter is to small for the 8.
