Re: What clutch on a 7MGE?? AND a Sump question?
Hi there Cobus.I also owned a 4x4 hilux with a 7mge engine installed in it. The normal hilux 4x4 clutched worked in the hilux. If my memory serves me correct, the outer dia of the hilux 4x4 clutch plate and the 3.0 cressida clutch plate was the same but the springs of the cressida clutch were stronger and because of this fact,I replaced my clutch with the cressida's clutch kit. I was also told that the cressida's pressure plate was firmer. Something else to mention is that the splines on the spigot shaft are identical thru-out the toyota range of the era.
Regarding the choice of clutch, valeo and sachs are as good as the other imo.
Regarding the sump,I am almost certain that the origanal sump was used on my conversion.
I hope this helps you.Good luck.

Re: What clutch on a 7MGE?? AND a Sump question?
Thanks for the reply Tony, almost looked like everybody ignored my post again.
Anyhow, I found out from Mark Kreel (aka Gunta) that here was two different sumps on the 7M. The one with the bowl at the front is either the older or the newer model, not sure. Will check it later on the net.
Clutch wise, this is the first time someone said that the Cressida clutch is better than the 22R??
I know the splines are the same for those year models, but there is a difference in the 2.7i 3RZ and the 22R.
Will post pics of it today, if time permets.
Any other inputs??

No Cobus, the spigot is the only input.........................!!!
Unless of course you are push starting, then the output becomes the input and the spigot then becomes the output, but let's just focus on the issue at hand.
Anything else I can do to help?????

Ja, and I have replaced two of those 2.7i clutches!ThysdJ wrote:If I remember correctly Cobus, and Hoppy must help out here, on Kaspaas we fitted a heavy duty 2.7 clutch....
There is a slight difference in spline size, eithe 0.05 or 0.5mm.
Going for the Cressida clutch now.
But unfortunatley thats not my main problem.
