89 Hilux Heart Transplant

Post by Coisé »

Good day all,

I need some advice, guidance to make up my mind in terms of what engine I should consider for a relaible transplant. The current 2.2 is very "pap" and I need bit more power and torque for I do sometimes tow my rubber duck or my off road trailer.

My first choice would be 2.4 22R with EFI and gasflow head.
My other choices would be 3.0 L Ford and more drastic Lexus. I have been also wondering about the Prado 3.4 with autobox and cruiser series 80 diff like in the Surf.

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks and I am enjoying the forum very much as I am picking up a lot of pointers. The bug has bitten me seriously as I have bought two of these 2.2 Double cabs to play with. I grew up with them when I was a laaitie. I have opted for the 7MG engine transplant. Barry of Ultimate 4x4 in Pretoria is doing it and he and his boet are quite involved in the 4x4 fraternity. I am getting it in three weeks time. Will keep you posted and with some pics. Cheers

I drove my 7MGE - Hilux to work today, and I wish I could afford to use it as a commuter every day. It drives brilliantly, nippy in traffic, and taxis just turn off the road when they see me coming.
