New engine for 1991/2 Hilux SFA
Hi everybody,
I want to replace the engine in my 1991/2 SFA Hilux. It currently has a standard 4Y engine. The vehicle is used for everyday road driving (it's my only vehicle) and for off-road 4x4 including competitions.
It has a suspension lift and body lift and therefore has the aerodynamics of a brick!
Add to this the change in gearing brought about by the 33 inch tyres and you have a vehicle with a top speed of 120kph and which slows down if it even SEES a hill!
I'm always crouched over the wheel, begging it to go faster!
So, I'm considering a Lexus V8, though it's big, complicated & expensive.
With a Lexus, do I go for the automatic transmission or keep the Hilux manual box? What are the pros and cons?
Alternatively a turbo diesel would give me more grunt but I'd rather have more CCs than a turbo.
What can you suggest that's reliable and will give me lots more grunt off-road and more on-road happiness. It doesn't have to go much faster than 140kph max.
Will the Toyota 4.5 EFI fit, or some sort of 4 litre diesel?
I'd be very grateful for help in this area. Thanks!

David
rip out the 4y and lob in a lexus
enjin is "light" and fit like a glove in a lux
with the mods already done to your truck it will even be easier as your boddy has already been lifted
gearbox options I like both the manual for it's "manual ness" STRONG 1st
and the auto for its "old man au
toness however the manual is the easiest and definately cheaper than the auto
now for the next question?
who is gonna do it ?
Martinus "son off tazz" jip you met him at our last "Moegatle outing" the long dude with the "green"lux

Re: New engine for 1991/2 Hilux SFA
Thank you for the input, guys.
:D
I'm not hearing anything except LEXUS V8
and to be honest, I'd love a V8 engine, having had two back in the UK.
mmmmmm...........V8 sound, grunt, charisma...........don't get me started!
So, please will you bend your considerable intellects to commenting on the following negative Lexus statements:
:ugeek:
--- The Lexus engine is so big that if you have any sort of front shunt the radiator gets pushed back into the engine, causing costly damage.
--- The Lexus needs a lot more maintanence (more and more regularly) than my 4Y (more money!)
--- Wading can **** up the electrics of the Lexus where my 4Y will be OK (and has been so far)
--- It will cost 60 grand to get the Lexus put in by my man in Krugersdorp (probably not the same man as yours, Family Dog) and only (!) 30 for a Toyota turbo-diesel.
and finally
-- where is Martinus based, please Blom? (He quoted 50 thou for the Lexus, keeping the manual box which he strongly recommended)
-- will a Lexus V8-powered Hilux be a reliable, everyday vehicle?
-- If not a Lexus, are there any other suitable conversions you know of?
-- Please will Mr Family Dog PM me with details of the V8 converter in Krugersdorp
Many thanks again, guys

Dave, the Phantom Lexus V8 Installer does indeed reside in the little Kingdom of Landrovia, a suburb belonging to Her Royal Majesty within the confines of Krugersdorp. He has already posted some good advice in this thread and I am sure he will make himself known if his busy workload should permit doing another such installation.-- Please will Mr Family Dog PM me with details of the V8 converter in Krugersdorp

Thanks Eric,
The mystery grows deeper!
Will the mystery man reveal himself before I've got someone else to do the conversion -- only time will tell.
If you have a minute, please will you look over my queries in the last post as I don't wanna make an expensive mistake with this conversion.
Thanks very much!!

Cool!!
Thank you Blom, for sorting out the V8 installer mystery.
:D
If it's not too much trouble, please will you have a look at the queries I posted, just so I can get some perspective on the Lexus versus other motors.
All the best

Yes, a 3.0 D4D in a SFA has been done before.
