I read with interest the comments concerning the 2.5 Hilux, to whit that it is a dog! I own a 2005 double cab and it goes like the clappers and is very economical. I owned an Isuxu 280 turbo and an Isuzu 260 double cab (both 4X4) and this is the equal if not better than either of those vehicles.
I note with interest that Toyota is again to produce the 2.5 4X4 double cab this year. I wonder why they stopped and why they are starting again!

It all depends what you get the vehicle for. I specifically did not want a turbo or all the other electronic stuff they put into the later D 4D 2.5 4X4 D/Cs. I am going to be testing it out on a Tanzania trip later this year so we will see then if I made the right choice! I did Kenya in the Isuzu 260 with no problems and I think the Toyota is a better vehicle.

Ramkat my 2.5 D4D ran all the way to Ngorogoro and back without any problems, not even a flat wheel. There is a trip report on the big site.
