First Time diesel owner

Post by fredzilla »

Hi, Please don't be cruel to me because I only have a 4 X 2 'Lux. This is my first life experience with a diesel vehicle, and oh boy! I am enjoying it already!! I took delivery of a 2007 3.0 D-4D D/C last week, and what a fanatastic bakkie. I have a little DIY experience on petrol vehicles, and now I want to get my hands dirty on the Hilux.
The bakkie has done 135,000km with a full service history, and I read in the owner's manual that the timing belt has to be replaced at 150,000km. Is this a major job, or can it be done at home? I will also be looking at buying a workshop manual, and would appreciate it if anyone knows the reference number from Autobooks for the Hilux 3.0D4D model range. :?: :?:
Thanks guys, any help or advice is worth a lot to me.

Thanks for the warm welcome from all. Now, I need some more advice; please guys, I'm a total novice when it comes to trucks(bakkies) as this is my first one. I have a rather uncomfortable ride, namely that the truck has a very 'boing boing' bouncy ride. I pumped the tyres according to the sticker on the inside of the B-pillar, which specifies unladen pressure of 200kPa front & rear. I think for the tyre size, that this could be too low. Tyres are standard Bridgestone 255/70/15.
Any advice from you fundies??? :eh:

You can definitely try pumping your tyres to 2.5 bar.
I sometimes go harder on tar....
But it may also be time to have a look at your suspension...

Welcome Fred

I would suggest changing the timing belt and tentioner pully by a mac. Pretty simple however you would rather have someone with some experiance have it done proberly. My light came on at exactly 150 000km and I had it done at 160 000km. Belt still in good order! Not to expensive around R2300 inc labour pvt!
