Engine antifreeze

Post by Piesang »

Thanks

Wat my vies maak is dat die ou by die hersteldiens wat die my bakkie diens altyd vir my sê wat se parte ek moet verskaf vir die diens (koop die parte bietjie goedkoper deur die werk), maar hy het my nog nooit gesê ek moet antifreeze kry nie. So het ek ook nooit daaraan gedink nie, want die kaap raak nie so koud nie.

As jy kan, gebruik Toyota Antifreeze.

can anyone give me a rough breakdown of how to flush my cooling system and fill it up again.
with the original toyota coolant, do i just pour it into the reservoir bottle?
with the other coolants, do i mix it all in a bucket then pour it in?
sorry for the silly questions... never done / seen done before.

Hi Shaakir
What i normally do is,i remove the termostate and put in a hose in the radiator and let the water runs through the engine until the water which comes out of the engine is clean .If you use radiator flush ,then you have to drive about 100 kms with the radiator flush and then you have to flush the engine as i describe it in previously.

I just use a radiator flush (the Wynne's one is OK), drive the required amount of time with the flush in and when I'm ready to drain the system, I place a collection tray underneath and disconnect the lower radiator hose. I like to do this while the motor is still a bit hot .... cooled off enough to be able to safely remove the radiator cap first ..... the thermostat should then still be open enough to prevent a 'lock'. If you want to be more thorough about it, you can replace the hose, re-fill with ordinary water and run the motor for a minute or two and then drain again.

Check the spec's on your vehicle's coolant capacity, then you can work out how much anti-freeze to put in when you replace the coolant water .... not necessary to pre-mix it before filling.

Ek het my plaaslike Toyota handelaar gekontak. Die 2.7 gaan 9.5L nodig hê teen R49 per L.

Another very important, and often unknown job of anti-freeze, is to keep the water pump lubricated! No anti-freeze will shorten the life of your water pump!

If the OEM coolant is a bit expensive, an excellent alternative is Mobil coolant!

It's just as good, if not better, than the Toyota OEM stuff!

Amper 10 liter!

i read somewhere here that one should be careful how you dispose of the old coolent with anti freeze, and running it down the road could be dangerous as it is poisonous.

how and where does one dispose of it then ???
