Sand Ladders

Post by Niel »

I have now seen a number of adds for the above and each person you speak to has a different opinion. So what say you on this matter what is the best option, steel, plastic aluminium...... Please qualify your answer with your reason(s).

I will see if I can get pics of the diffrent types

Why?

Steel in my opinion, only if you want to do stuff like on camel adventure, bridging ditches etc. Steel tracks with support obviously are the answer. Not sure they worth lugging around though normally?

It came up in conversation and since I don't use it myself I could not really comment and thought it will be good to post it here and get more info :D

Okay, that is a good explanation.

I would also go for steel/aluminium as they are more useful than the plastic ones. :) :!:

Niel we have used sand ladders in the Namib and it was steel ladders made out of square tubbing. Each one is having a rope attached to it so that you can find it in the sand after being used. I think steel will work well and is surely strong as well.

ANY material would suffice - provided it can take the weight of the vehicle being recovered. It becomes a matter of preference. Clothing, hiking bags, branches, spade & high lift jack, virtually anything to support the vehicle that is stuck... this for sand driving, I've used them all. Just to get 'out of it'.
Being stuck in mud??? different story- then I would want the steel ones. Or the sanbag trick has thus far served me perfectly ... every time. [And the road to Mankwe in the rainy season is an absolute "beach" ... ] But then again - Brutus dont get stuck that much.

Had to recover another Hilux this past holiday. Somehow he got stuck halfway up a hill and lying on the chassis. And the wheels had spun a few nice holes. And could not get it pushed out of the holes or adding branches under wheels. Small tug with snatch strap did the trick

I will ask the guy here in Langebaan who in the Cape sells it.
If you wanna come to Langebaan, as you enter town, at the first stop on your right there is Lagoon Autos, he stocks them. Will pop in there tomorrow and ask if he has a picture and information on more dealers.

I know it is expensive and I am sure once you saw it many boere will be able to make a plan.

Ease Out is die naam.
