VERVANG 4Y ENJIN MET?????

Post by Hidalgo »

Petrol (verkieslik toyota)
Nie te veel elektronies wees nie
Graag my bestaande ratkas gebruik, aangesien hy onlangs oorgedoen is.
Genoeg Torque (Het 'n "Alu-Canopy" met rooftop tent)
My spoed langpad 100-110km/h.

Alle raad sal opreg waardeer word.... :taunt:

Almal is dors. Lexus het bja meer electronics.

ian tough one , you are looking for more oomph but light on juice , all i can say is horses for courses , i have had hiluxes with 22r , ford v6 and all sorts in and at the end of the day you have to sit down and decide what power you are looking for and what consumption you want , if you go lexus please pretty please put the auto in , it drops the rpm a 1000 at 120kph and makes a big diffs on consumption , as for the electronics if you go efi 22r youve got the electronics , the same if you go lexus , so you are not winning either way but to carry a spare only costs you 1k , as for the box if the electronics plays up unplug the gearbox ecu and drive it manual this is great as it wont leave you standing somewhere. family member has the 3l camry motor in his sfa and the consumption is the same as the v8 and this is with the standard management ( trying to get him to change so we can optimise it more ) but its your van and you must decide what you want , better still go and drive a few vans and then make up your mind. dont let anybody bully you into doing something do your homework , the 7mge fits the kz shape nicely but a female dog to fit in the sfa.

Dis maar my 2 sente.

Hoop jy kom gou reg.

Hallo Ian.

Welkom op by ons.

4Y: 70Kw 182Nm

2 Liter Camry /RAV4
3SFE: 88Kw 171Nm - Bout net so op die 4Y se bellhousing vas volgens http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/tech-c ... using.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

2.2 Liter Camry
5SFE: 98Kw 197Nm – Dis dieselfde as die 3SFE, neem ek aan so dit sal ook direk op die bellhousing vasbout?

3 Liter Camry
3VZ-FE: 138Kw 264Nm

Ek sien die 2 Liter masjien geadverteer vir R4950 by European Quality Used, 032 551 9723/071 494 7058
Dieselfde ouens adverteer ook die 3SGE vir R4950. Dit kom uit die Celica reeks. Krag wissel vanaf 103-156Kw en 175-220Nm – Met ‘n Turbo gaan dit tot 500Kw en 639Nm!!!!

Volledige lys van die S-reeks enjins: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_S_engine" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Groete

thabo , nice list
did a lux with the camry 3l motor and it worked well , the 2.2 would also work , as for the 3sge its a very peaky motor and you would have to wring its neck a bit , but it does not complain.
the 5vz is also a good option but not cheap , but for 600cc i would just go the v8 route.
but if the guys wanted to keep the manual box as standard then these are good options ,
but for the 2.2 camry motor you are going through all the shlep to gain ( against the 22r motor ) 17kw and 10nm on the fly which is not much on the wheels.

Mark it is not only about the little bit you gain.

If you look what fuel consumption those engines gave you in normal cars. Coincidentally my father owned two of each vehicles with those engines.
The 22R in a Cresida gave 10 to 11 km/l (He had 2x 2.4 Cresidas)
the 2.2 Camry engine give you 14km/l , both at about 120km/l (He had 2x 2.2 Camries and my brother now owns the second one)
The 2.2 Camry had a better fuel consumption than the 2.0 Camry in the platkar versions so I will not even consider the 2.0 Camry engine.

The 2.2 Camry is a smooth engine with good torque and is one of those engines which can do 600,000km or more without a hick-up, which is better than what you will get from a 4Y or a 22R

I have long ago suggested using the 2.2 Camry engine but some of the clever guys said it wont work because it sits on an angle. Cannot understand why this can be a problem because there is enough space in a Hilux engine bay to accommodate it, the side of a V8 also sits on an angle and it is not a problem.

Especially if this is a bolt on to the gear box I still think this should be a very good engine for a Hilux.
It is super reliable and I am sure the fuel consumption will be good.

The engine importers sell them for round about R5,000.00

i do agree pieter , if you are looking for better consumption the 2.2 will work well , you can stand it up straight but you just have to mod the sump and oil pick up. if i was looking for better consumption and maybe a bit more oomph i would go this route.
why i am saying the lux is a good bet for the 1uz is ive seen so many luxes with 33 tyres and all the kit in the world on it , and this is when a 4 cyl is going to fight a losing battle.

Welcome Ian!!

When I look at your criteria I can'y help but wonder why you'd like to change the motor that you already have. The 4Y is an awesome off-road motor with fantastic low down grunt ..... my current 22R cannot match my old 4Y in any area except open road speed and even then it's only marginally better. The 4Y was more than confortable in 2nd gear low where the 22R has to rev away in 1st gear. I'm also wary of electronics letting you down in the bush. Both the 4Y and 22R are normally aspirated. The old 4Y carb was beautifully set up and gave me anywhere between 9 and 11 km/lit on the open road dependant on conditions.

The beauty is that it's a stock standard set-up ..... no gearbox / diff mods required, spares are available throughout Africa if you care to wander further afield.

The onlly drawback (if you could call it that) is lack of open road top end, but travel fast and you have to concentrate a lot more on the road ..... travel a bit slower and you get to savour the terrain and vistas that you pass.

To me it's simply a no brainer.

I agree with Andy here, but if a man wants change then he will get the mods he wants
