Can anybody please tell me what the In and Out Tappet or Valve clearances are on a 4Y Engine. Toyota Hilux D/C 4x4 YN67R.

My manual only gives a hot setting .... both intake and exhaust are give as 0 mm when hot, but that's sailing too close to the wind for my liking .... one could burn valves, so I would set it (hot) at the finest clearance that you have on your feeler gauge.

Juis.

The 4Y has hydraulic lifters that control the clearance by oil pressure, there is no adjustment, hence why the manual show zero. If the lifters become noisy it's best to replace them, but be aware that it's not always the lifters that cause the noise/problems, other possible issues are:

- low oil pressure
- bent push rod
- worn/damaged cam shaft lobes
- worn/damaged rocker arm/face
- worn/damaged rocker shaft

Stefan this is true for the 22R 2.4, where the tappets are adjustable, but not the 4Y.

Sorry guys, on the 4Y one cannot set the valve clearance. Not set nut nothing. The only way is to measure your push rod length, check for wear on the rocker arm, check the hydrolic lifter. So these 3 items must be checked to get the clearance correct. The lifter one can service or bleed to get it going again, if this do not help the items must be renewed to get the Valve clearance correct.

Sorry, you guys are correct .... the 22R has adjustment, not 4y. Mine was never noisy, so never had to look at it, and the head was once replaced long ago ... memory gets a bit vague that far back. :D:

Any tips on removing the lifters with the head on? I can pull mine about 1/2 way out with a magnet then they stop.

Also are your lifters ROUND Cylindars or Cylinderical but FLAT ON 2 SIDES???

I picked up some Sealed Power ZHT951 lifters but they are round. (high rev optinon was not available.) Is this right?

What are the proper dimensions for push rods?

Thanks!
