Sometime in the past the Jeep got fitted with sealed beam headlights, and the park-lights were "disabled". All the wiring was still and connected, so I decided to restore the park-lights.

The indicators are nice and big and I had a few waterproof LED modules lying around, so I made a plan.

Cut a rectangular hole in the bottom of the indicator light housing. Excuse the quality of the cutting, I had a drill and a bent hacksaw blade at my disposal.

I stuck the LED module in place with hot glue, copious amounts of it, to seal the edges and to keep the LED module in place.

Wired up for testing, and then fitted. It works like a charm. I was worried for a little while that the LED's would be too bright and that it would make the indicators difficult to see, but no, it works fine as can be seen in this video clip.

I just want to say something here, no disrespect towards anybody, and especially not Kaspaas (not the winemaker from die NoordKaap, the Hilux I used to own).

We went out to Atlantis Dunes on Sunday just to try the black Jeep out. Dirk went nuts and bought a Hummer a couple of weeks ago, ja ja I know ons praat nie te veel daaroor nie, but it was what he wanted, and I respect his choices, seeing as it is his money he is using to pay for it. So we took the two Yanks out plus we had a couple of Pommies join us in the form of Land Rover Defenders. And then there was Oom Leon in his KZ-TE.

Anyway, back to reality. I left home on Sunday morning with clouds in the sky. It was cool outside and evidence of overnite rain was everywhere. The Jeep was dressed in half a soft top, meaning all the windows were zipped out. On our way, as we came down Tygerberg Hill it started raining. Really raining, not wipers on "intermittent" raining, wipers at III and water splashing raining. Amazing thing is that nothing got wet inside.. No leaks, I expected some, at least at the top of the windscreen where the roof joins. Nada, niks.. kurk droog, and nothing came into the back either. Although the breeze that came in from the back was cool, it wasnt unbearable or wet. I liked that!

Once the tyres were deflated, and the gate-admin completed we tackled the dunes. The first dune sort of got to me, because the poor little black Jeep didnt want to go the way I wanted it to. I was driving in 1H, but it wasnt a strong enough gear for the conditions. I decided maybe 2L would be better. BANG! Just what the doctor ordered! It came alive! No matter how high the dune, or how steep, the little black Jeep just took everything I threw at it and kept on asking for more! I made a few mistakes, and got hung up a couple of times, but hey, thats what it is all about, getting to know the vehicle!

We ran up the Dog-leg, stopping halfway up and pulling away again.... The back of the Horse-shoe was tricky at the top, but easy peasy. I was pleasantly surprised and suitably impressed. We are going to become really really good friends, this little black Jeep and I.

Before we knew it it was time to go home.. sadly so, but it was getting dark, and they wanted to close the gates. Kaspaas was in all respects a great dune riding machine, purpose built with the right tyres, suspension and gear ratios, and it was awesome to drive him in the dunes. Long live Kaspaas.But that is in the past now, and this little black number stole my heart on Sunday. He is a totally different kettle of fish. An adrenalin rush waiting to happen. Even with wonky AT tyres, and the wrong diff ratios, he managed to make me feel like a 16 year old on his first date with Wicked Annie from down the road..

To the Jeep guys out there.. I got rid of the irritating bong-bong-bong permanently today. Actually not that difficult, and quite by accident. Now I can leave the key in the ignition and open the doors. Hey I can even switch on the ignition without the bong-bong-bong telling me to put on my seatbelt..!! Peace and quiet at last..

En nie die klein stadsnommertjies wat ma gebruik om winkels toe te gaan nie, ek praat van Monsters.
Ek weet hulle moet op die sypaadjies slaap, maar om 33's ( en groter ) op te sit om op te klim, is bietjie dik vir 'n daalder.
Maar nou ja, dis seker maar 'n Jeep ding. En 'n Hilux ding, en 'n Land Rover ding, en 'n Ford ding, en, en , en....................
