2005 Hilux V6 engine "noise"

Post by gary955 »

Hi,

My Hilux has suddenly started making a helluva racket from the engine when starting.
It souns like a bearing whine, but very noisy.

My Mate has a 2006 Hilux V6 and he's started this quite sometime ago.
Anybody else experiencing this or had it looked at ?

Thanx

Cheers

Gary

Hi Gary,

I'd start by checking the auxillary belt's idler pulley bearings and tensioner pulley. These are known to pack up on the V6! I've replaced them once at 180000km.

Gary I did it myself. Replacing the serpentine belt can be a bit tricky, but it's do-able. Toyota sell the pulleys, with bearing, as a complete unit. You can't buy that bearing off the shelf because of the inner race collar, which is not standard.

Idler pulley. Had mine replaced on 175 000km, about 4 months ago. Bought from Toyota, installed by my mechanic. Pulley was R650 exc Vat

Ah well . . . too late she cried . . .
Had to stop at Toyota yesterday afternoon, the noise was so bad.
The Service Manager said I couldn't drive any further as the 'thing'
was about to seize.
So now we'll hear what kind of bank loan I'll need to cover this ! ! :?
