Botswana 2014
I am planning a trip through Botswana between 17 April and 04 May next year.
I plan to do the trip in my Hilux 4x4 with our off-road Xcape caravan in tow.
I would appreciate it if anyone who has done the trip before could advise
Is the section between Maun via Savute to Kasane possible with an off-road caravan in tow?
What is the approximate distance from Maun to Savute?
What is the approximate distance from Savute to Kasane?
Is petrol available between Maun and Kasane?
If anyone enjoys camping and would like to join in this is the planned route
17 April leave Home, Serowe, Orapa Pan, Maun, Savute, Kasane, Victoria Falls, Nate Palapye, Home 04 May

Wayne, thanks.
I plan to go the off-road route, not too sure if the Hilux will make it with the caravan?

Re: Botswana 2014
Tony, I did that route in April last year in my SFA.
Kasane to Savute approx 170km.
Savute to maun approx 200km.
VERY thick sand for most of the way north of Savute. And mostly twee spoor.
South of Savute some sand but a lot of black cotton clay - easy in the dry but deadly in the wet.
NO fuel between Kasane & Maun!!!!
If you're towing I strongly suggest you make sure that there is more than one vehicle.
But a fantastic bit of driving anyway..........do it!!!!!!!!

Hi Neil, I would love to join you in December, but by then I wouldn't have been home for a year and my house in Durban is in need of some TLC.Thunder02 wrote:Tony, join us for a test run in December

Maun to the Kasane border is the better part of 1 000km, then another 75km to Vic falls.Legend35-ZN wrote:Thanks Steve, may leave the caravan in Maun and drive through to Vic falls for two nights.Tzepplin wrote:Tony, I did that route in April last year in my SFA.

Do you want to sleep over in Zim, or would you be happy with a "day trip" from Kasane to Vic Falls ?
MANY places offer these day trips from Kasane. We did the one from Water Lilly Lodge ( http://www.janalatours.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) - EXCELLENT !
Consider staying over at Senyati Safari Camp. Pula 270 for a camp spot for two people, with your own ablusions. About 25km outside of Kasane, and even closer to the border.

Hi Chris, Thanks for the advice, we plan to sleepover near Kasane. Will look at the option of a day excursion.ChrisF wrote:Maun to the Kasane border is the better part of 1 000km, then another 75km to Vic falls.Legend35-ZN wrote:Thanks Steve, may leave the caravan in Maun and drive through to Vic falls for two nights.Tzepplin wrote:Tony, I did that route in April last year in my SFA.

Wanted to drive Maun via Savuti to Kasane, through to Vic falls them down to Nate. Quite worried we won't make it through the thick sand with the Xcape behind the Hilux if it rains.
