Vigo V6 tank size

Post by Kykdaar »

This morning i asked the petrol attendant to fill up the bakkie while i went into the shop to buy a coke secure in the knowledge that i had about a quarter of a tank of fuel left and that the max capacity of the tank is 80l.

Luckily i got back to the bakkie fairly quickly and in time to stop the fuelling which at that time was heading north of 102 litres - R1360 of 95.

I remember checking under the bakkie previously for another tank and as far as i could see there was only the main tank.

So -

Do i have the standard tank size wrong, or did the previous owner fit a larger tank - as opposed to another seperate tank.

I thought one could only buy a second tank - not a bigger tank.

Any thoughts?

Andre,

As far as Im aware the petrol and diesel use the same tank. I have NEVER put more than 79lt's in. Even if you factor the filler neck in it will never be an extra 25% + over the manufacturer claimed fill. Suspect in my opinion. But then I have been wrong......

Here is a pic of the tank (as best I could in my work garb)

Has a Toyota barcode sticker "IMV0007329" on it.

Does not look aftermarket to me

The pipe coming out the front there looks like it has a LR tank above the spare wheel. Those tanks dont have a pipe there normally!

Had a quick look at mine. I also have a pipe connected to the main/original tank that leads to a LR tank.

Check under the spare wheel. there should be a 70l tank, or the previous owner had it removed before he sold the V6.

Thanks gents,

Seems the only logical explanation.

Will crawl in under it and have a good look under the spare wheel.

I am not exactly happy if it turns out that the bakkie has a LR tank having read all the threads on the fuel pump that gets damaged by the debris from the LR tank construction.

It probably means that the fuel pump will fail at the most awkward time and a bill of around R5K in future.

Bakkie has 150 000 km's on the clock

Definetief 'n extra tank iewers.

Mine has 210 000 on the clock and no problems with the fuel pump or filters. It all depends on who did the installation and if they did a proper job.

If there was metal shaving in the tank, the damage will already be done. If you want to keep the LR tank, put a fuel filter between the main tank and the LR tank to prevent the shavings from moving forward.

Shjoe!

Rian,

Seker omdat hy nie so prominent uitstaan soos my vorige bakkie se ene nie.

Just found this old 2009 thread - viewtopic.php?f=94&t=4135" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Seems it is most probably a 65 litre tank.

Will ask Louis to check when i take the bakkie to him for the dual battery installation.
