Interested in Buying a Hilux - What to look for?
Hi Guys
I am brand new to the forum but hopefully I will become a regular.
I live and work in Uganda and have always driven Landcruiser 80 Series's. Recently I sold a
97 GX and decided that I would love to give a Hilux a go for a change.
There is a guy selling a 2007 Hilux Double Cab 3.0 D4-D (130,000 km on the clock) and the price seems
to be about right...
Could anyone please give me some pointers as to what to look out for, I have read alot of bad stories
about injectors and injector pump related problems caused by bad fuel.
Also, if there are any known problems to look out for.
Your help would be greatly appreciated
Kind Regards
Leon

Welcome Leon.
As far as the hilux goes, there should be no problems unless been badly treated by previous owner.
I'm sure the guys will able to give you a few pointers.

Welcome aboard, Leon!
Just make sure that the badge on the grille is a genuine Toyota one and not a piece of 'Cheep' rubbish!
Ja, the injectors can be a problem with anything more than 50ppm diesel. Also the particulate fuel filter needs changing every 10,000 km's or so .... otherwise nothing to be concerned about if the vehicle has FSH and has been looked after.

Welcome Leon
There is ONE major problem - once you've had a Hilux you tend to be hooked!!!
Smiling when you're a Jeep owner is a prerequisite - you need to be nice when you need a tow
Hope your deal works out!

Re: Interested in Buying a Hilux - What to look for?
Some minor issues to look out for.
The water pumps tend to start seeping (look for pink deposit on the pulleys and timing belt cover), The clutch fork pivot goes dry and sounds like a cricket (irritating but not a mechanical risk), the "clock Spring" connector for the Airbag on the Steering wheel fails causing a Airbag hazard light to come on. Some people have mentioned issues with injectors but mine is still going strong on 225000 ks with the original injectors.
