HILUX REAR SUSPENSION UPGRADE FOR TOWING
I need some advice please. I have front spacers on my Hilux to make up for the extra weight of the ARB bullbar, however when I am fully loaded and with trailer hooked, my back suspension sags too much. What would be the best option to sort this out - I am currently considering the airbags that can be installed, any other options? I dont want to upgrade complete suspension with OME or something similar, and it must be something that would not result in a very hard ride when the bakkie is not loaded.

You can look at putting in Extended Shackles, the more cost effective option http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/suspens ... -p-222.htmBester wrote:I need some advice please. Go the air spring route..really beneficial with towing issues as you mention
Contact Adele at Air Spring Supply Company on (011) 397 6390, last time I checked the basic rear kit is about R4000.00
just get it properly installed..but they can assist.

Thanks for the response, air springs seems to be the way to go. Not really keen on the extended shackles as the weight is not constant, only when fully loaded.

No problem with the ride other than it makes the rear suspension very stiff if you have no load .... could be a hassle on bumpy gravel roads but you could compensate a bit with tyre pressures. You would also loose some rear axle articulation due to the stiffness.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Hi Bester.
What we would do is on the leaf pack design you have 3 main blades 8mm thick plus 2 helper blades configuration.Add another blade 8mm thick but raise the main pack away from the helpers or load blades also set the helpers at a slight negative camber. This gives you the extra loadability when needed but also you not riding on top of the helpers with no load so the rate even though its increased its not going to break your back.
Problem down your side is be careful who does this as the full spring process must be done in order for it to last.
I could do a set for you send them down and once you got them in send me your leafs.
Problem is courier up and down but we can do it properely with a guarantee. This will also raise the vehicle 40-45mm.
Regards
Darrell

Air suspension best option IMO.. Firestone is a supplier and each balloon can handle 1 ton.
This is a 1.5 ton camper with both balloons pumped to 3 bar. The problem with this camper is how far it goes over the back...
