Diff and Box for a Project

Post by 4x4Grant »

Hi Guys

If this is in the wrong section or been discussed please move or point me in the right direction :beg:

I have a replica Willys Jeep that has been sitting begging to be built for the longest time. So now i am thinking of
slowly just building her up. My thoughts are Lexus V8.

My idea's for the Jeep are, a strong motor for towing and pulling out stuck non Toyota's :siffler: something i can drive around town
to buy my bread and milk. Also to take to the transkie when we go. I want to keep it as simple as possible

Question time:

What is a good set of Diff's to run in this? (It won't be a full blown crawler or Toy just a nice capable 4x4)

Then what will a set of Diff's set me back? (Ball park Figure)

What Box is best suited to run on the V8 where i can do long trips and play in the mud nicely?

Thanks
Grant

KZ box and diffs should do nicely. Higher gearing so that you're not revving like hell while cruising and strong enough to handle the torque. ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Thanks Andy

I have heard that the D4D box is a straight fit and also good for these motors not sure how true?

The D4D box should also be good for the same reasons .... just don't know how they compare in pricing but it will save you some moolas and aggravation if it's a 'straight fit'. You would have to check on that to make sure. ;-)

What diffs are in the Jeep? You can take SFA diffs and change the inners to KZTE or D4D... Ask Hoppy about it..

Andy
Ek het n Gearmax M82 in Vaaltyn en ek glo nie dit sit in die Lexus se broek nie. Ek het wel die M77 se tande af gehaal maar die M82 is baie sterker gebou met swaardiens bearings en dik syasse.
