Our Tankwa Karoo sleep over
We didnt have time off over the festive season, so we decided to take a short break and go for a Tankwa Karoo sleepover. We left home on New Year's morning and drove on the N7 to Clanwilliam. That is going to be such a nice road to drive once they finish all the roadworks!! Just before we turned off towards Clanwilliam, we drove behind Rusti's double storey Hilux and E managed to snap a few pics with her cellphone.
We drove thru Clanwilliam and out the other side and turned off just past the Englishman's Grave.

Re: Our Tankwa Karoo sleep over
Okay ja anyway.. got side tracked... I know about double storeys, I also use a RTT remember?
Anyway.. We turned off into the Biedouw Vallei and drove thru to the R356 Calvinia-Cares Highway. Nothing much to report, except that it was a leisurely drive, quite hot, but the aircon kept us cool and comfy. The Doring River had some water in it, but the SAS Willehond was beached.
From the C-C Highway we turned off towards the Africa Burn site. Had a look at the towers that are left from the last event, and drove on to the Tanqua Guest House where we were booked in for the night. It was hot and windy, and we forgot to pack cooldrinks. We had LOTS of water and alcoholic drinks but no cooldrinks.... So we made a fire, had a braai and finished all the ciders and other cold drinks we had before turning in quite early... What can I say, it was hot...
Next morning we explored a bit, drove over the Oudebaaskraal Dam wall, I think Duane was there too, and then off south towards Ceres. At the Tankwa Farm Stall we pulled in to buy something cold to drink.. It was hot, what can I say??
On the stoep there were a bunch of bikers drinking something cool as well, and this face, slightly familiar, half wrapped in a buff/scarf called my name... It was Manie (Maniac)... We live in the same suburb, but in the last year or so we kept on bumping into each other in the strangest places... Richtersveld, Tankwa Karoo.... Anyway, after a quick Hello, How do you do, and Happy New Years we were all on our way again...
Over the Katbakkies Pass to Oppie Berg, down Gydo Pass and into Ceres, where we re-inflated tyres and stretched legs. Since we stopped smoking we get placed very quickly and we dont stop along the road as much as we used to..
From Ceres we took Bainskloof, Wellington, Durbanville and home.... It was quick, it was relaxing, and my nose was blocked from Karoo dust.. That was the whole idea, it worked, we enjoyed it very much, we are ready for the next one and for the year ahead...
Check it out, small video of the trip...

When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!
