New tent for beginner

Post by 4x4BEES »

Hi guys

I am finally getting things ready to do some camping.
I have crockery (blik borde, bakkies en koppies) and cutlery.
3x camping chairs
1x fold-up table.
Sleeping bags as well as blow up mattress.
It is a start at least.

Now the big one :frustrated:

I am looking to buy a tent.
I have a budget of +-R4 000-00.
Can you please help me in making a good choice.

I have never camped before and know jack squat of setting up a campsite.
I literary have not got a clue as what is easy to set up or not.

Any help would be appreciated.

gaan koop by Checker hyper 3x3 nylon tent, hy is 2m hoog ne kos jou(wel ek het Paasnaweek laasjaar R999) betaal
ander TAKEALOT het baie keer lekker deals.

Lekkerding van die Coleman tent wat Checkers verkoop, jou vrou kan hom amper alleen opslaan, hy weeg amper niks en slaan regtig binne 5min op(once you've done it once)
Happy Camping. of as jy duur wil gaan, Outdoor warehouse of self Campingworld

Kevin, I've just been doing some research for a semi decent family tent (three of us) and have narrowed the list down to two possibilities.
Have a look at these two - Oztrail Seascape 10 person & the Coleman Weathermaser 10.

I'm undecided between the two.

My keuse is n 3x3 canvas dome tent

Laat jou laaitie in syne slaap, hy sal dit kwaai like, maar gooi jou gewone beddegoed in. Kussings, duvet, die lot. Jy slaap baie lekkerder...

Happy Camping.

Hi Kevin..

I only ever buy things like this on Gumtree.. You can buy the best quality hardly used things for literally half the price new or even less.. You just have to be careful when going to see it and test all the zips, make sure all the pegs are there etc.. If the advert says used twice then it must look brand new.. no wear marks what so ever.. Never buy anything that doesn't look brand new. That way you are guaranteed it is still in great condition. This also allows you to buy good quality for a food price. If you buy a cheap one brand new and lose interest it will also have no resale value but good quality always has good resale.

I found this on Gumtree for you. 2.5x3.5m canvas tent for R2900.

Good advice here....

Bottomline = different strokes for diff folks & you get what you pay for. Start minimal & work your way up as needs arise. Also look at how others are camping to get some tips.

What you could also do is borrow a tent or 2 from friends to see what works for YOU.

Personally I love the Canvas tents but they're too expensive.
I have a 360 deg nylon tent (10 person) works great for longer stays and crap weather. Setup takes 10 -15 minutes and fold up 20 min. I got it off my sister for R800 (they paid R1299 & used it once) equavilents now are about R3500, so it was a no-brainer at the time

Then I have a Malamoo Extra, superfast setup, somewhat diffucult fold up in the beginning but OK once you get used to it. We comfortably sleep 3 in it on overnight fishing trip.

With your budget (and if you're confident that you'll continue camping), I would buy a decent tent between R2k & 3k (or even 2 Malamoo's) ; use the rest to invest in a ground sheet and a fold up matress (or SINGLE stretchers), but that's just me

Kevin... kom haal vir jou 'n tent by my... 3x3 Campmaster nylon dome tent...

Hi Kevin
There was someone on this forum selling a RV4 Oztent with sides and an awning.
The tent can be put up in 45 seconds...
The sides take another four or five minutes and then you have two rooms and an awning over the front...
they cost a little more, but are really good tents.
The problem is only that it is long and cylindrical, but will fit easily on the Lux roofrack & canopy.

There is nothing wrong with trying the tent from Thys and when you decide on what you and your family like about the camping, then you can make the decision on how much you wish to spend on your new lifestyl...
Good luck with your decision...

The best gazebo we have ever had and still has is the campmor senior canvas from outdoor warehouse similar to the picture from Thys. It has been doing duty as mr bakkie's garage for the past year and a half without once complaining about wind, rain or hail

Die gazebo in daai prentjie van my is 'n BushTec Rhino Gazebo (http://www.takealot.com/bushtec-gold-ra ... ID32791655).

Image

Dit was juis 'n oefening om ons kamp toerusting te gaan "weather test".. Julle kan meer lees oor daai trippie hier: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30267&hilit=riemvasmaak&start=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Kyk of enige stretchers of opblaas matrasse of watookal in die tent pas.
