My 1980 Hilux 4x4 RN46 - 20R Gasoline (18R) - "Truls"
Hello all!
My name is Daniel and im from Norway, was born and raised in the beautiful islands of Lofoten, currently living and working in Harstad.
Here is my 1980 Hilux 4x4 called "Truls".
- Original clean title
- Bought from an Electric firm witch was using the truck from end of 1980 (when they bought him/it) til 2014 when i bought it.
- They fitted it with bigger tires for more ground clearence when running him in the woods for services on electric poles.
- The only thing i have done to him, is giving him a big service - oil, checking of transmission, transfer case, axels, diffs etc. and greased everything up nicely!
And yes, i like snow
interior isn't that great, whould gladly reapolster it with new light brown skin, but it will do for now.
The engine bay is clean as you can get it

Welcome Daniel!
Your Hilux is in great condition for a 1980 company vehicle!! Those oldies were built tough and will probably still outlast a lot of newer vehicles, even with the 18R motor (slow but reliable). Enjoy your Hilux and this forum.

Truls
Truls is a Norwegian name and originates from the Danish Torgils. It means "strong", "hero" and "wise", but not in the way one would think. Strong in the mind, the unlikely hero and wise.
Truls is awesome
Thre is also a reference to it as "Thor's Hammer"........ ...I like.

Thanks guys, kind words and much appreciated !
Actually the name "Truls" comes from my girlfriend. She had this theory witch includes that Truls is a fat, ugly and lots of beard kind of guy/pickup.
But, i say its just the pickup that is not so glad having her in the passanger seat :razz:
Anyhow, haven't got anymore plans for Truls at all, want to get the dash(the cover behind the steering wheel) and interiour fixed up.
I also want to swap it to a diesel engine, but i have no idea what diesel engine whould be perfect for this car, i mean - a engine with is basicly a plug'n play - that i dont need to customize the frame etc. at all. Basicly want a bolt on enigine without much trouble
Now Truls runs on gasoline witch isn't that cheap in Norway, especially the 98 Octan (almost 17,- kroner - about 2-3 dollars pr. liter)... so yeah, i want a diesel engine.
I got my other pickup truck also aligned up for you, but not a Hilux thou
Nissan Navara 2.5 dCi "Arctic Truck" 35"(inch), and this runs on Diesel aprox. 1.30 dollars pr. liter

Nothing wrong with the Nissan Navara, and the Arctic conversion looks great. I just prefer the Hilux :)
At least you are justified in having an arctic truck conversion done - here in SA some guys have it done to their vehicles, and we rarely have more than 5cm of snow in an entire winter and that only in some remote areas...

Hi Daniel,
Welcome to the Forum. That's a beautiful Hilux you have there. Is that the original paint? The bonnet lines looks like a Ford Escort or Capri. Ive never seen one of those before and there's a saying that we have here "South Africa is Hilux country.." because there are more Hilux's on our roads than any other bakkie so it really is great to see! If I were to guess I would say hilux has about 40% of our market and when you go 4x4ing here 80% of the bakkies are hilux's. If you have not seen this already you will see why.. http://youtu.be/xnWKz7Cthkk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you want advice etc for your Nivara there is another Forum here that some of our Hilux guys are also on called 4x4 community. All the other 4x4's are on there.

Well, here in Norway, especialy in Northern Norway, we have sh*tloads of snow, fun as hell if you have 4x4 or a climber like we do, but the snow can be pritty irritating at times alsoOupa Stig wrote:Nothing wrong with the Nissan Navara, and the Arctic conversion looks great. I dont realy know about the bonnet, since they or the guy witch i bought the car from didnt say anything, but i dont mind :razz:Rusti wrote:Hi Daniel,

The paint of the car is as real as it can get, the same paint thru all the years, all of its 35 years of service and dedication, this Toyota still does the headturner for everyone here in Harstad, Norway. But it has some "repairs" with not so original orange as the car is, but that can be removed anyway :razz:
Anyhow - thank you guys for liking my Truls so much, and digging him - you guys inspire my to do stuff to him and fix him - i dont see him so much since i got my working truck (nissan with double cab, tools and everything) so its very much appreciated !

Hi Daniel,
I meant the bonnet lines look great and remind me of the Ford capri and escorts. I'm sure the bonnet etc is original for that hilux or the more experienced guys here would have mentioned it. The colour is great too.. Really retro orange and still has allot of colour/ not faded for its age which is why I asked whether or not it is original.

Nah, that is the correct bonnet.
Just a few jargon/slag word that the people of the south use:
Bakkie = Pickip truck
Bonnet = Hood
You can also visit http://www.nissanoffroad.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and show off you Datsun there!
