New Hilux Revo engine info

Post by Hoppy »

The 1GD-FTV is a 2.8L (2755cc) straight-4 common rail diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger and Intercooler. It has 16 valves and a DOHC (double overhead camshaft) design. Its compression ratio is 15.6:1. Bore x stroke is 92.0 mm x 103.6 mm. It generates 177 horsepower (132 kW) at 3400 rpm, and 450 newton metres (330 lbf·ft) of torque at 1400-2600 rpm when mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, depending on target market and emission specifications. With manual transmission, outputs are 177 horsepower (132 kW) and 420 newton metres (310 lbf·ft).[citation needed] Average fuel consumption (in JC08 method) is 11.2 km/l.
This engine will be used in Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, second generation Toyota Fortuner and eighth generation Toyota Hilux.
2GD-FTV[edit]
The 2GD-FTV is a 2.4L (2393cc) straight-4 common rail diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger and Intercooler. It has 16 valves and a DOHC (double overhead camshaft) design. Its compression ratio is 15.6:1. Bore x stroke is 92.0 mm x 90.0 mm. It generates 150 horsepower (110 kW) at 3400 rpm, and 400 newton metres (300 lbf·ft) of torque at 1600-2000 rpm when mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, depending on target market and emission specifications. With manual transmission, outputs are 150 horsepower (110 kW) and 343 newton metres (253 lbf·ft)
The engine is a genuine Toyota unit, not a Cummins or Isuzu as speculated.

Interesting. They didn't give the fuel consumption for the 2.4, wonder if that's because it may be heavier on fuel than the 2.8

Would love to see the torque figures for the V6. Power is apparently 207kW. Must be uprated version of the current FJ/Prado engine @ 200/202kW.

Me think the 2.4 will be a good buy.

2.4's torque is only 20nm less than the 2.8, me also thinks the 2.4 will be a good one.

I am sure one must be able to get fuel consumption figures from Thailand or other countries where it is already available.

Looks like the manuals are detuned to compensate for the looses incurred with the auto box. Some chipping would probably see them wake up considerably.... But that's just me. Not even my lawnmower is standard!

Some more engine porn on the Revo's...

ESTEC GD Engines of Toyota Hilux Revo

GD Engines come with ESTEC (Economy with Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion) technology and is a downsized turbocharged direct injection engine with superior thermal efficient combustion. This engine features a combination of a cylinder head with an integrated exhaust manifold and a turbocharger, and achieves high-speed combustion using a fan spray direct and port injection system and a high in-cylinder tumble ratio. The GD engine is capable of both seamless and invigorating acceleration while also ensuring superior thermal efficiency. We are therefore expecting superior performance with minimal fuel use.

As indicated above, GD engines use commonrail fuel injection technology operating at ultra high pressures of up to 135 mpa (1350 bar or about 19,580 psi) which is about 8 times more than the pressure of conventional fuel injection systems within a “common rail” that feeds the injectors on all four cylinders. This is combined with a 32-bit ECU standard with Toyota Hilux Revo which controls fuel quantity, valve-timing, and boost pressure at different engine parameters resulting in best fuel economy and also full utilization of power during acceleration. Pilot injection is also utilized by the common rail fuel system to smooth engine operation. Small amounts of fuel are introduced into the combustion chamber prior to the main injection event, reducing lag time and promoting more continuous and complete combustion. Exterior and interior engine noise is also reduced.

The 3.5L V6 is an all new non-hybrid Atkinson cycle engine. Also GR series.
Here is the specs:

3.5L V6: Output: 207Kw Torque: 359 Nm at 4600 rpm.

Much more fuel efficient than current 4.0 V6 (1GR-FE)
..and then it's got some nice advances like the D4-S (both port and direct injected),
the tumble flow exhaust extraction and the self cleaning injectors that is slitted.
..also no more exhaust manifold :shock2: (Gases goes through the head it seems)

The only thing is...it's produced for the Tacoma, and I can see no V6 on the new Hilux offerings so far.
I got arrested for driving naked. I guess I shouldn’t have put four wheels, an engine, and a steering wheel on my bathtub.

2GR-FKS

The 2GR-FKS combines the D-4S system from the 2GR-FSE with the simulated on-demand Atkinson cycle used in the 2UR-GSE and 8AR-FTS engines. The intake camshafts are equipped with VVT-iW and the exhaust camshafts are equipped with VVT-i. In the Tacoma the engine specifications are 207 kW (278 hp) at 6000 rpm and 359 N·m (265 lb·ft) at 4600 rpm.[9] In the Lexus RX 350 the engine specifications are 220 kW (295 hp) at 6300 rpm and 362 N·m (267 lb·ft) at 4700 rpm respectively. In the Lexus GS350 the engine specifications are 232 kW (311 hp) at 6400 rpm and 380 N·m (280 lb·ft) at 4800 rpm respectively.

Nope... it looks like Toyota SA are set to keep the current 4L V6 (1GR-FE), as is in the Vigo. Yes, that is a 175Kw engine. The new engine, a 3.5L V6 (2GR-FKS), is 207kW to 235kW depending on tuning. We were hope this engine would be fitted to the local Revo, but it doesn't look like it will be available here in SA! Overseas it's used in the 2015 Toyota Tacoma.

Yes..I would've love to see the 3.5 V6 in the new Revo also, but it was never destined for SA or a Lux.
Aikona Hilux..ziggollo. nayda. ziltch..zip...eee nada.
Maybe our market is just too small or our Rand is net te poef.
But who knows..maybe oneday? How bout it Toy SA?
Those Atkinsons is fantastic and is something totally different to the Ottos.

But nonetheless. I'ts still good news to see the (old) 1GR-FE in the Revo.
It now comes wit a 6 sp (also from Aisin Warner I thinks)
So still lots of support and spares. :cooldude:
