Carburetor on (SFA) Hilux with a 22R engine

Post by BPNordeje »

Hi guys I am Rebuilding my Hilux as a Project car. I have rebuild the engine 10000km ago. I am in process to gas flow the head and also do branches on it. Now I am wondering if it is the right thing to put a 36 Weber carb on it or to stick with the stock Toyota carb. I drive with it on the road but like to do 4x4 with it. Up to now I did not hear any good things about the Weber carb on Off road. Please help with some experience.

Stay with the original carb, it's designed to operate at extreme pitch and yaw angles whereas the Weber is not and tends to either flood or starve. A better all round option is to do an EFI conversion (22RE) - this will give even better pitch / yaw performance and slightly more power with slightly improved fuel economy (depending on how heavy your foot is).

The guy to speak to in your area is Louis Zanoli at 4x4Megaworld in Menlyn. :winkx:
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
