Every time I pass a Prado 90 I get this spasm in my neck and my heart skips a beat.
So last week I am up in JHB and Pieter sent me a pic of a beauty. He test drives and everything is 100%.
If something goes bang it is Pieter's fault
Anyhow I let them know I will take it and had to wait till Monday to see it and drive it.After some more waiting I got it this afternoon.Did I mention it is the 3.4l V6 5VZ-FE
Man o Man what a car. I am very impressed.
Its got 318k on the clock.I know its a lot but I know this engine is only just run in.
It's got a dual battery system in and air lift suspension.LOTS of buttons

George welcome to the other "more comfy" side of the club!!!!
Your Prado seems to be in really good condition and you have some valueable accesories that came with it!!! Enjoy it a lot and that smooth V6 sound under the right foot!!!
318K is just run in for these motors as I have read many times that those motors give up to 600000km's trouble free if they are looked after.....
Seems like Kungwini last year planted a seed that has blossomed now...

Re: I Joined the 90 club
My first mod will be to get 2 load bars in between the standard rails. I need to put a canoe on top. Have anyone done this.I want to do something like this.
http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/sho ... o+roofrack
Only problem I see is that the 90 does not have the same type of rails that the 120 have.I cant see the track on the inside of the rail
I dont want a full roof rack.It is going to spoil the look.
Eish.I am getting old

Shot George, it's a great car! Just check when the Cam belt was changed (should have been done at 300k) and inspect the CV covers.
I have heard of this engine doing 750,000km and still sounded as sweet as solken glass.
Welcome to the Prado Club!

Re: I Joined the 90 club
Just an update on things so far.
When I got it I had these moment where I thought "Lest keep this one standard".Yeah right. That lasted a few good minutes
First port of call was to get in contact with oom Eric.As always his speedy services had me drilling this weekend. While I waited for the antenna to arrive.I found this great deal on a roof rack.A roofrack was not that high up on my list, but the deal was to good to walk away.So I got the rack with water tank and jerry can holders.
I fitted my solar panel, but I dont really like the idea of water and jerry cans on the roof, but will keep it for now when I have to do a serious long trip again. I also got some set tidy's that go behind the driver and pasenger seats. When fitted I did not like the look.So I move it to the rear door for more packing space Next on the list is some spots and a snorkel

Re: I Joined the 90 club
I must admit.Every time I drive the Prado I get more impressed with it.It is really one of the nicest cars I ever owned.
The auto box put me off since I never owned a auto before, but now I just love it.
Yesterday I almost bumped the wifes car I came into a parking lot and just use the brake to stop without pressing the clutch

Re: I Joined the 90 club
When I put the solar panel on the rack my main concern was to get the wires in the cab.
I also want to be able to remove it since the idea is not to keep the rack permanent on the roof.
So after a bit of thought I came up with the following.
I removed one of the covers from the standard rails on the rooof.I removed one bolt and the drilled the hole bigger so that the wire can get through. Fitted a Brad harrison and lots of silicon.Voila

I've got the flat 48LED Dome lights fitted .... that thing is SICK! It's like daylight in the cab with it on.
Are the ones that you fitted even brighter or not as bright?

Hi Andy.I got the 48dome in the middle and the 36dome at the back door.
The 48dome gives out way more light.FOr these front dome lights it is only the BAUS that fits in there.
Must admit that when I open the doors at night it looks like a spaceship has landed
Take it up with management

I know exactly what you mean, especially since I have concealed under-door lights that activate individually, spreading a pool of light on the ground below each access point.Georgie-Boy wrote:... when I open the doors at night it looks like a spaceship has landed.

Re: I Joined the 90 club
I finally bite the bullet and got myself a decent bumper.
Fitment was easy and what I liked about the bumper is that the bumper comes in 3 parts.
The bumper itself and 2x support brackets.
This makes it easy to fit on your own.You start with the support brackets and the the bumper bolts on.This allow for lots of adjustments for a perfect fit. http://www.4x4direct.co.za/land-cruiser ... umper.html

Very neat George!! Looking nice now with the bumper fitted. Also great to know it comes in easy to bolt on brackets that makes it easy to DIY.

Foto is bietjie onduidelik, kan jy dit dalk oorneem met die Cederberge in die agtergrond, regtewiel op 'n groot klip en die son wat op die bumper skyn?

Hi George, do you know the manufacturer of your bumper was? I'm struggling to find one for a 95 I just bought.george wrote:I finally bite the bullet and got myself a decent bumper.

Re: I Joined the 90 club
Hi Stan.
It was made by Nudge M. Unfortunately they closed shop.
You will have to find someone that can custom make it. These days no one have something of the shelf.

Thanks for your response.
Yes I'm struggling to find accessories.
All I want to do is - bullbar, rock sliders, bash plates, suspension upgrade

Have a word with Uys on the 4x4Community Forum, he manufactures good stuff. I have a bashplate for the same Prado that he supplied.

Thanks Eric. I called them on Monday, they apparently don't make kit for the 90s anymore.Family_Dog wrote:Have a word with Uys on the 4x4Community Forum, he manufactures good stuff. I have a bashplate for the same Prado that he supplied.

I said surely you've got the plans just wip them out and job done. No joy.
Granted I didn't speak to Uys myself, I'd assume the lady that answered the phone gave me the correct information.
I'll send him a PM on 4x4community

Re: I Joined the 90 club
On a trip to Durban and obeying speed limits, I was happy to experience around 8.1km/litre, four people up with luggage. On the return trip not so good, a hefty three-quarter crosswind coupled with climbing from sea-level to highveld level resulted in about 7.3km/l.
Still not too shabby for a 3.4-litre V6 Auto transmission.
