Engine swap for FJ62
Hello all,
Does anybody know what is a suitable or recommended engine for the FJ62 (1989 model) Land Cruiser? It came originally with a 2H diesel engine. But it is now lost a lot of its power after 2 rebuilds. Plus has now over 250,000 miles on it.
Current setup is
Engine 2H, Cylinders 6 in line, Fuel diesel, Volume (cm3) 3980
Power (kW (bhp)) 76 (102)
Torque, max. (Nm @ rpm) 241 @ 18003
Gear box H55F 5 speed
Would like to put in an engine which has better fuel economy and similar power. Any suggestions?

Re: Engine swap for FJ62
My 1989 fj62 has a factory fitted 3F, non electronic, beautiful engine! The 60's were also fitted with the legendary 2F motor. 250 000 miles is not much for a 2H........
3F is the most economical of the 3 original standard factory fitted motors fitted to the 60's series Land Cruisers. There was also of course the electronic 3F motor fitted to some markets which was the 3FE.

1hd-t, go and have a look on Youtube. But not an aftermarket turbo buggerup, an original import engine that was designed for the turbo. Thosr things pull like a train!!!! The local Toyota dealer did a FJ75 a while back and I got a spin in the result, BRILLIANT! The guy now tows a big trailer happily at 120/140kmh...... Where with a normal 1hd you are lucky if you reach 80kmh.

Re: Engine swap for FJ62
Thanks people for your input. 1HD-T seems like a good option and will probably be available here in Pakistan. Do you think the 1KD-FTV would be a good replacement?
Currently have a 120 series Prado which runs really well and gives great fuel mileage. Would a FJ 62 suit a 1KD-FTV?

1KD-FTV replacement only possible with the full OEM wiring loom, instrument cluster, ecu and key/barrel. The big thing a lot of people miss on a rebuild is the diesel pump. If it doesn't work well it won't matter what you did with the internals. Its the single most important bit on a old diesel engine.

Re: Engine swap for FJ62
Hi Faraz , a freind of mine has got a Cruiser with the 2H motor. 1.6 million km's on the clock +- 1 million miles , engine never been opened , two rear diff replacements and a gearbox rebuild and a radiator replacement. Other wise still going strong. It is retired at this stage. Only go out to get some fire wood , does not get off loaded and gets filled when empty. I think there are lots of them out there in the same condition , and still going.
