brake/ clutch pedal

This morning when I left for work there was a loud sounds from under the dash on my 1999 2.7 4x4 and then a spring and it's other half fell down onto my feet I know it's one of the return springs on one of the pedals but not sure which one as I see the brake and the clutch doesn't have now. so not sure if they must both have or not.
