Post by Zantus »

I'm going to play with the Hilex at Jagtvlakte on Saturday afternoon.

Eventhough it is still seriously down on power, it should like the terrain ...and I MUST test the new OME springs(being fitted tomorrow)

No problem at all...it was very windy, so it wasn't really that nice and we weren't there very long.

It was me, Anton in his Touareg and Ralph Clark in his colt.

The hilux did very well and I went through some very interesting places. With it's incredibly good approach angle I can put it againt a metre high vertical step and it just climbs up. The stock rear bumper is a real problem at the moment and I will have to replace it with something more low profile. I made a rear bumper for an Isuzu I had a few years ago, I'll adapt that design to suit the hilux chassis and step up the tubing size.
Ralph went almost everywhere I went and had no problem on the obsticles Chris and I usually do in the disco and the colt, but his tyres were still at road pressures....his many years of experience counted in his favour.

Unfortunately no pics!

The best part of the suspension is the huge difference in on road comfort. I think I should have taken a heavier front spring, because with the weight, the torque on the front axle and the offset caused by the axle move, the springs probably won't last very long, but only time will tell.
